About the role
National Parks and Wildlife Service has an exciting opportunity for a temporary part-time Team Leader Ranger (TLR) to work as part of the Sydney North team in Greater Sydney Branch and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal, and historic heritage.
The TLR is an integral leadership role supporting a team of professional Rangers and is responsible for achieving the agency's goals by setting clear objectives and tasks. The role is highly diverse and mainly office based but field work in surrounding reserves is still a regular requirement. The TLR is expected to have a broad understanding of all the Area's projects and be able to provide strategic policy and program advice and assistance as required.
The TLR reports directly to the Area Manager and is expected to work to identify and manage key issues affecting the Area within government and the community. The TLR is regarded a senior management role with significant influence in supporting the Area Manager and Team Leader Field Operations to achieve coordinated conservation and community outcomes. The TLR must ensure information flow, planning and reporting relevant to the field operations of the Area and that internal and external project contractors' and consultants' requirements are met.
About You
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about conservation, land management and working collaboratively. Your staff management and strategic project management skills will be key in juggling and meeting competing priorities, while your ability to motivate and influence your team will be the key to achieving outcomes in a busy and changing environment. To be successful in the role, you will also have:
- Knowledge of and experience in the implementation of current relevant environmental legislation, with demonstrated ability to interpret and apply relevant environmental legislation
- Strong leadership and cross-cultural communication skills to manage a diverse team in multiple locations
- Advanced facilitation and negotiation skills
- The ability to juggle competing priorities to meet deadlines
- A high attention to detail
- Expert project planning skills and discipline to ensure due process is followed
- Sound IT capabilities, particularly in databases, common MS Office software and some GIS experience
- Industry experience including environmental assessment skills.
Essential Requirements
- Current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent
This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining some of NSW's most precious natural places.
Applicants must meet the requirements of a firefighting medical which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake frontline firefighting roles. The applicant must pass the task-based fitness assessment to a moderate level within the probationary period (up to 12 months) and annually thereafter.
