Within the directorate, the Customer and Communications Business Unit drives innovation and leads strategic marketing and communications, drives and supports delivery of a fantastic range of events and achieves results for our customers.
About the Position
Reporting to the Service Lead – Marketing and Communications, you are responsible for producing high quality and engaging content with well-crafted key messages and communications tactics tailored to the audiences of City publications and digital communications channels.
You will create and deliver effective communications plans that promote strategic City projects and initiatives, including producing the City's premier monthly e-newsletter Stirling Scene and citywide printed publications. Build trusted internal and external networks and work closely alongside the City's Senior Media Advisor and the Digital and Marketing teams to help you protect and enhance the City's brand and reputation.
Your experience as a communications all-rounder, excellent writing skills, attention to detail, strong relationship-building skills and ability to prioritise and remain calm under pressure will see you thrive at a leading and innovative local government and values-driven team.
Key Responsibilities
The duties of the Communications Officer are listed in full on the position description. They will include (but are not limited to):
- Proactively identify and create engaging written and photo content suitable for the City's owned channels and publications.
- Deliver key City publications such as the monthly Stirling Scene e-newsletter and content for major printed corporate publications through the year.
- Draft, review and release internal and external communications (including but not limited to social media content, e-newsletters, printed newsletters, news articles/media releases and speeches/talking points), ensuring content is accurate, appropriate and of high quality.
- Develop and implement communication plans around projects or issues requiring strategic communications to protect and enhance the City's brand and reputation.
- Develop trusted and effective relationships with key City colleagues to proactively promote City projects and initiatives using consistent messaging.
- Using relevant data and research insights, refine the content and key messages in City communications and publications to maximise awareness, readership and engagement
About You
The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don't tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.
- Highly competent writer with demonstrated experience producing engaging written content suitable for mediums such as e-newsletters, printed publications, social media, media releases, news articles, speeches and talking points
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with employees, stakeholders, media and suppliers to achieve positive outcomes
- Demonstrated experience in developing, delivering and measuring successful communications plans to highlight an organisation's achievements
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to work on a range of ongoing projects and manage competing demands, develop innovative solutions and make sound decisions to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated media liaison experience either as a journalist or in a communications or public relations team for at least five years

Some after hours or occasional weekend work may be required for backfill support for on-call media, which attracts remuneration.

This permanent full-time position is a Level 7 Inside Workforce Agreement position which attracts a salary from $96, $101,823.62 gross pro rata per annum plus superannuation.
To be eligible to work for us, you need to provide, or have ability obtain a:
- A copy of Australian driving licence
- National Police Clearance (valid within the last 3 months)
- Pre-Employment Medical and DAS clearance
- The right to work in Australia
