Denmark Local Grocer is a much loved locally owned store in the beautiful town of Denmark. We pride ourselves on providing fresh locally sourced produce and items to our customers with a friendly welcome and we are currently in the process of expanding our operations. Hence this newly created position.

As well as a loyal customer base, we have a wholesale division that supplies and supports a range of restaurants, kitchens and cafes in the region. Our reach is far beyond the customers that walk through our doors.

We are looking for a Fresh Produce Manager who will take responsibility for the availability and presentation of both the in-shop produce and the efficient fulfillment of wholesale orders. You will be passionate about fruit and veg and have excellent customer service skills. We have a number of local suppliers providing us with fresh, high quality produce, some of which is spray free.

You will also be a part of the leadership team of the Store in general and will act in a general supervisory role throughout the week.

The main attributes you will bring to this role are your fruit and veg passion, your excellent customer service skills, a willingness to learn and loyalty to the position. You will receive a wage commensurate with your current level and knowledge of supermarket operations, which will increase as your level of knowledge increases, access to performance bonuses, loyalty bonuses and other benefits.

This is a fulltime, permanent position based in Denmark. The store operates 7 days a week so some weekend hours will be required on alternate weekends. Being in a busy tourist town our busiest periods are when everyone else is having their holidays. Details of this will be discussed at interview.

You will be:

  • Detail oriented –

  • the presentation of the fruit and vegetable section is imperative and your detail oriented and presentation skills are required.

  • you will have high quality control standards to follow our dedication to freshness.
  • in the effort to keep the store appropriately stocked the POS and stock control system needs to be kept constantly up to date so appropriate ordering is done

  • Basic Economics

  • This is a numbers focused role where supply and demand drive your decision making so as to most effectively benefit the store.

  • Time management – managing both your time and other team members to achieve the required workload in an efficient manner.
  • Knowledge of POS systems is of major benefit.

  • Relationship management both with suppliers and customers.

  • Our Customers are of utmost importance and their loyalty respected.

  • Our Suppliers are diverse and crucial to our success. From small local growers and farmers, through to large wholesale groups.
  • Ability to keep the team focused and moving to achieve the above
  • Data Entry – there is a level of mundane data entry required but systems and outsourcing keep this to a minimum.
  • People person, Team orientated.
  • Basic Computer skills in word, outlook and excel
  • Physically capable to lift approx. 15kg from off the floor to above your head.
  • Current forklift licence or ability to get one.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in fresh produce management or fruit and vegetable retail operations
  • Food safety certification or willingness to obtain relevant food handling qualifications
  • Valid Australian driver's licence
  • Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work visa with appropriate work rights
