MLC is seeking an inspiring and experienced educator to lead the delivery of Mathematics across our Junior School (Prep/Foundation – Year 6). The Role
Reporting to the Head of Junior School, the Junior School Mathematics Coordinator provides strategic and pedagogical leadership in Mathematics, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all year levels.
As a key member of the Junior School Leadership Team, the Coordinator plays a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of Mathematics education, supporting colleagues through mentoring and professional learning, and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
This role includes approximately 0.6FTE teaching and 0.4FTE leadership and coordination responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of an engaging, evidence-based Mathematics program from Prep to Year 6.
- Collaborate with the Head of Junior School and Section Coordinators to drive consistent, high-quality teaching and learning practices.
- Use data to inform instructional decisions and support staff to enhance student outcomes.
- Mentor and support Junior School teachers in the effective delivery of the Mathematics curriculum.
- Build teacher capability through professional learning, classroom coaching, and collaborative planning.
- Lead the analysis of student performance data, including NAPLAN, to inform curriculum refinement.
- Coordinate Mathematics-related programs, competitions, and extension or support initiatives.
- Manage Mathematics resources and budget to enable innovative and engaging learning experiences.
- Foster a positive learning culture grounded in curiosity, confidence, and collaboration.
About You
You are a highly skilled educator and leader who is passionate about empowering both students and teachers to achieve their best. You demonstrate a deep understanding of effective Mathematics pedagogy and bring energy, insight, and initiative to your work.
You will have:
- Proven leadership experience in curriculum development and pedagogy, ideally within a Junior School setting.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based teaching practices in Mathematics.
- Demonstrated ability to use data to drive improved learning outcomes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with staff, students, and parents.
- A collaborative and reflective approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Appropriate teaching qualifications and current VIT registration.
- Postgraduate qualifications in education or leadership (desirable).
- Understanding of and commitment to the Victorian Child Safe Standards and MLC's Child Safe Program.
