The Role

We're seeking a 30-Hour Part Time Department Leads – Front End Tills to join our leadership team at Essendon.

As a Department Lead, you'll be the first face and final smile of The Happy Apple experience; leading the front tills team to deliver exceptional service (where our team surprise and delight our customers), smooth operations, and moments of genuine connection with every customer.

You'll play a key role in daily operations, team coaching, and customer care ensuring the tills area runs efficiently, safely, and with The Happy Apple warmth we're known for.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service that surprises and delights.
  • Support and coach front tills team members to uphold service and operational standards.
  • Manage tills operations; ensuring accurate transactions, clean stations, stocked supplies, and smooth queue flow.
  • Monitor scanning accuracy, refunds, and cash handling processes.
  • Roster and delegate tasks using Tanda and lead daily shift huddles to share priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, cash handling, and health & safety procedures.
  • Oversee daily bread and pastry orders — liaise with local suppliers to ensure optimal stock levels, freshness, and presentation.
  • Conduct regular team check-ins and support onboarding and probation reviews.
  • Foster a culture of care, teamwork, and connection — celebrating wins and supporting growth.
About You

You're a hands-on leader who sets the tone through your energy and example. You thrive in a busy retail environment and love helping your team and customers have a great experience every day.

You'll bring:

  • 2+ years' experience in a retail or customer service leadership role.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and people skills.
  • Confidence using POS and time & attendance systems (e.g., Tanda, Worldsmart).
  • Availability to work weekends and public holidays.
  • A current Driver's Licence (required), RSA (if over 18), and ideally First Aid (Level 2).
