Purpose

The Policy Officer (Health Expenditure and Funding Analysis) will have the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of quality health services in Queensland by undertaking analysis and research into funding and other related policy proposals.

Your key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of models to estimate/project the funding and health service impacts of different policy settings, for example, changes to Commonwealth public hospital funding arrangements.
  • Contribute to the ongoing analysis of trends in health expenditure and funding using both internal Department of Health data and other external sources (for example the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare).
  • Undertake research into longer term drivers of health service demand, funding and expenditure as well as national and international trends into health funding and expenditure.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports, briefing notes, presentations and other correspondence related to the above topics.
  • Assist with a range of other Branch responsibilities from time to time as required, such as the preparation of the annual Queensland budget papers.
  • Fulfill the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Department of Health's core values, as outlined above.
  • Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Role fit

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical and research skills.
  • Experience using Excel, particularly for economic/financial modelling and analysis.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexibility in responding to changing work priorities.
  • Works well as part of a team or autonomously as needed.
  • Knowledge of the Queensland and Australian health system or ability to acquire such knowledge.
  • A tertiary qualification in economics, statistics, public policy, health service management or other relevant discipline would be highly regarded.
