About the role

We are seeking a passionate Head of Music Programs who will lead the Music department (teachers, tutors, administrative staff). Reporting to the Director of Student Experiences, this role will support the implementation and promotion of a vision for Music that aligns with the College's strategic direction and in keeping with the best traditions of the College.

This permanent, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work in close co-operation with the Director of Student Experiences and Director of Curriculum to ensure that the Music department is synergistically aligned in the P-12 context and compliant with the requirements of the Australian Curriculum and the QCAA.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies to ensure excellence and successful student participation in Music in keeping with the best traditions of the College.
  • Provide input to and support the implementation and promotion of a vision for Music that aligns with and supports the College's vision, mission and strategic plan.
  • Develop and/or contribute to effective links with professional and community entities and agencies to assist in refining the College's Music offerings and portfolio to elevate the quality and positive exposure of this program to the community.
  • Teach with a deep understanding of the curriculum up to Year 12, including the ability to manage and produce live theatre productions.
  • Oversee the planning and allocation of resources for all aspects of the Music Program.
  • Encourage staff and student behavior consistent with Anglican ethos.
  • Provide staff leadership to the Music team to enable them to successfully deliver the Music Program to the benefit of students and the broader College community.
  • Assist in Master Planning processes as they relate to Music.
  • Lead and actively participate in the delivery of the biennial musical production.
  • Oversee the appropriate engagement of external contractors/tutors and volunteers in Music including extra-curricular ensembles, instrumental immersion programs and private tuition.
  • Teach the timetable equivalent of two senior classes (this may include participation in immersion programs or untimetabled extension classes).
  • Oversee all aspects of extra-curricular music and take direct responsibility for at least two extra-curricular Music ensembles or groups.
  • Attend Music department events, including Music camps.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Current Queensland College of Teachers registration
  • Bachelor of Education or a Music degree qualification supported by a post-graduate diploma or degree in teaching or education.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates or ability to acquire.
  • Proven experience as a classroom Teacher of Music up to and including Year 12.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and expertise in the implementation of pedagogical models appropriate and relevant to students' age and stage of development and/or to the discipline.
  • Experience as an ensemble and/or choral director.
  • High standard of performance skill on an instrument or voice.
  • Solid experience in leading high-performing teams to success.
  • A clearly articulated philosophy that is synergistic and harmonious with the Anglican ethos.
  • Familiarity with and capacity to implement programs in accordance with prescribed curriculum frameworks, such as ACARA/QCAA P-12 curriculum documents and National Curriculum initiatives.
  • An understanding of legislation related to Music copyright, performing rights, and reproduction rights.
  • Recognition and a solid understanding of student protection requirements.
