What's the role?
Sky News Australia is seeking a Deputy Head of Programs to help lead our award-winning opinion content across broadcast and digital platforms.
Reporting directly to the Head of Programs, you'll be a proven television news professional with sharp editorial judgment, outstanding leadership skills, and a deep understanding of Australian politics, current affairs, and the fast pace of a 24/7 newsroom.
You'll bring energy, creativity, and precision to every production, managing teams, talent, and live broadcasts with confidence and care, as we move into our world-class new studios and newsroom in Surry Hills, Sydney.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the day-to-day running of Sky News opinion programs, including Business Now, The Kenny Report, Credlin, Bolt, Sharri, Paul Murray Live and Outsiders.
Deputise for the Head of Programs when required.
Lead program teams and collaborate with hosts to deliver engaging, accurate, and high-impact content.
Provide editorial and legal oversight in partnership with the programs and legal teams to ensure compliance with broadcasting codes and law.
Work closely with the Head of Programs to manage and mentor senior on-air talent.
Lead and support production teams across the Sydney headquarters and national bureaus.
Review and approve scripts and content to ensure quality, tone, and brand alignment.
Provide decisive leadership in a live, fast-paced newsroom environment, guiding teams through on-air and production challenges.
Support digital integration, ensuring on-air content is optimised for Sky News' digital platforms.
Identify and develop new on-screen talent and regular contributors.
Contribute strategic ideas for new program formats and audience engagement initiatives across broadcast and digital.
Work a five-day roster across seven days, with a focus on afternoon/evening shifts and some late nights.
Who are you?
A seasoned television news professional with proven experience in both studio and field production.
A collaborative leader who helps maintain a positive, high-performing newsroom culture.
Deep knowledge of Australian politics, current affairs, and global news.
Proven ability to manage and inspire senior colleagues and on-air talent.
Sound understanding of broadcasting codes, defamation law, and editorial compliance.
Calm under pressure, decisive, and capable of leading teams to deliver their best work.
