DBM Vircon's Digital Engineering team is growing, and we are currently recruiting for an Electrical BIM Technician, to join our Brisbane based team. The Electrical BIM Technician will play a key role in supporting electrical design and model coordination across renewable energy and substation infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for developing and managing BIM models, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and facilitating federated model coordination meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Service Lead – Digital Engineering – Energy and Utilities, your main responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Create and manage accurate 2D and 3D electrical BIM models using AutoCAD and MicroStation.
- Support the electrical design of HV and LV systems, including primary and secondary schematic development.
- Coordinate BIM models across multiple disciplines within a federated environment.
- Lead model coordination meetings, identify and resolve design clashes (e.g., using Navisworks or equivalent tools).
- Integrate and manage GIS and LiDAR spatial data in design workflows where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with project BIM standards and relevant ISO frameworks, including ISO 9001, ISO 55000, and ISO 19650.
- Communicate effectively with engineering and design teams to meet project timelines.
- Contribute to workflow improvements, including potential use of automation or scripting tools.
Essential Criteria:
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Experience in electrical design for renewable energy and substation projects.
- Experience in solar, wind, battery storage, or similar renewable technologies.
- Strong understanding of HV and LV systems, including primary/secondary schematics.
- Experience working with or contributing to federated BIM models and using common data environments (CDEs).
- Confident leading and contributing to model coordination meetings.
- Familiar with GIS tools and LiDAR data integration.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 55000 practices.
- Experience using Navisworks or similar coordination tools.
- Exposure to or interest in scripting/automation (e.g., Python, Dynamo, VBA).
- Strong time management, attention to detail, and communication skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- HNC/HND/Diploma or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, BIM, or a related field.
- Certifications in CAD/BIM software and BIM processes (preferred but not essential).
