The Royal Hobart Hospital and Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for full time permanent Staff Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology vacancy.
The role is suitable to a motivated generalist Obstetrician Gynaecologist and skills and experience across the full spectrum of the specialty.
This position will be attractive to a highly skilled and motivated medical professional who views challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The Role
Provide clinical services to the highest possible standard to women patients and their families.
Provide support and supervision of training for the trainees (Registrars and Resident Medical Officers) in the department.
Provide services to the School of Medicine as required through the discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Tasmania in undergraduate teaching.
Promote and participate in research in one of the focus areas of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Pursue actively improved outcomes for women patients by participating in Post Graduate Training Audit and Evaluation.

Salary
Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.
- Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle (subject to working full-time hours) OR allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,786 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 pro rata per annum.
- Relocation allowance.
- On call allowance % of Base Salary.
- All other allowances as per current Award.
- And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
Other Benefits:
- You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
- Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $13.95 per week per person, or $25.95 for a family.
- You will also have access to accommodation and relocation costs.
Details of Appointment
Permanent full-time day work (with on-call), working 76 hours per fortnight commencing from 2 February 2026.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.
Essential Requirements
- Holds specialist registration; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
- Recognition as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist by the completion of Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) training or equivalent
- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

- Crimes involving dishonesty
- Identification check
- Disciplinary action in previous employment check
Desirable Requirements
- Experience in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and basic obstetric ultrasound
