The Role
CSBB is currently seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join our creative and service-focused team. As a member of the Digital Enablement team, this position is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of the organisation's enterprise network infrastructure across 45 schools and central office.
This role ensures secure, reliable, and high-performing connectivity across diverse platforms including Telstra Ethernet, Pipe Networks, Pure IP, Vertel Telecoms, Equinix data centres, Palo Alto firewalls, and Aruba wireless systems and contributes to the definition and evolution of enterprise architecture, ensuring alignment with the broader Catholic Schools Broken Bay (CSBB) strategy.
This is a permanent, full time role based at our head office in Pennant Hills, with the opportunity to work from home 1 day a week & will need to occasionally attend to schools as required.
Salary: Circa $157K + super
Role Responsibilities
- Design and maintain scalable, secure network infrastructure across school sites and data centres.
- Lead integration of Telstra Ethernet, Pipe Networks, and Vertel Telecoms into unified WAN architecture.
- Develop network solution designs and architectures using modern technology & platforms, with an emphasis on Cisco, Aruba, Palo Alto and Zscaler.
- Configure and troubleshoot networking devices, and mediums, in a predominately Aruba/Cisco/Microsoft environment.
- Travels to CSBB sites to install/troubleshoot/remediate network related issues (LAN/WLAN/WAN) when remote access is not possible.
- Undertakes device configuration/backups and upgrade.
- Manage interconnectivity with Equinix-hosted services and cloud platforms & ensures high availability and disaster recovery readiness across all network layers.
- Configure and support Palo Alto firewalls, and Pure IP networks.
- Monitor and optimise network performance using tools such as Syslog.
- Lead network-related projects including upgrades, migrations, and new site deployment, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and implementation across hybrid environments.
- Participate in change advisory boards and follow ITIL-aligned processes.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to support digital transformation initiatives.
- Offer guidance on the technical roadmap that underpins the broader CSBB strategy, aligning engineering efforts with strategic educational outcomes.
- Ability to work after business hours when major incidents occur, or to implement changes during specific change window to minimise the service impact.
Essential Criteria
- Supportive of, or can demonstrate an understanding and commitment to, the ethos of the Catholic faith in an educational context.
- Minimum 5–7 years' experience in enterprise network engineering, with demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and supporting complex multi-site environments.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of enterprise network technologies and services in on-premises and cloud environments (Windows Storage Spaces Direct HCI Clusters and Azure).
- Deep understanding of Data Centre network technologies, including Cisco Nexus Spine and Leaf.
- Subject matter expertise in Switching (HP/Aruba) and Routing (Cisco ISR/ASR).
- Fundamental ITIL knowledge & Familiarity with Microsoft ecosystem tools: Azure AD, Intune, SCCM, Exchange Online, and M365.
- Proven expertise in managing and integrating Telstra Ethernet, Pipe Networks, Vertel Telecoms, and other carrier-grade WAN services.
- Experience working within an ITIL-aligned environment, including incident, problem, change, and release management (e.g. ServiceNow).
- Experience working in a fast-paced and solution focused environment, with the customer in mind to serve their needs and requirements.
- Can manage competing priorities and the sensitivities of others to deliver high quality work.
- Current NSW Driver's Licence (and own car required).
