Sydney, New South Wales, Australia The Institute of International Studies Pty Ltd Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

The Institute of International Studies (TIIS) is a private higher education provider committed to delivering high-quality academic programs and student experiences. We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Accountant to join our Finance and Administration team. This role will support senior management with the day-to-day financial operations of the institute. The successful applicant will have a strong understanding of financial systems, payroll, ATO obligations, and the ability to manage multiple accounting tasks in a higher education setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations
  • Process tuition fees, invoices, refunds, and maintain student financial records
  • Manage fortnightly/monthly payroll processes, including superannuation and tax compliance
  • Support the preparation of financial reports, cash flow analysis, and audit documentation
  • Ensure financial compliance with relevant accounting standards and legislative requirements ( ATO, )
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on finance-related matters
  • Assist with budget development, forecasting, and expenditure tracking
  • Maintain financial records for insurance, registration, and staff entitlements
  • Contribute to the development of finance policies, procedures, and improvement initiatives

Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar accounting role (experience in education or not-for-profit is highly regarded)
  • Sound knowledge of Australian accounting principles, ATO and Fair Work compliance
  • Experience with payroll systems and cloud-based accounting software (e.g., Xero, )
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to work

Desirable

  • CPA/CA qualification or working towards
  • Experience supporting audits and risk management processes
