RSPCA South Australia – Government Relations & Retail/Commercial Expertise

RSPCA South Australia is the state's oldest and most trusted animal welfare charity, with a proud history of protecting, caring for, and advocating on behalf of animals for more than 150 years.

Every year, we rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome thousands of animals while working to prevent cruelty and shape a kinder future for all creatures great and small.

We are now seeking to appoint
two Non-Executive Directors
who share our passion for animal welfare and can bring specialist expertise to strengthen our Board's capabilities.

These appointments are voluntary (unpaid) positions and represent a unique opportunity to contribute your professional skills to a cause with profound community impact.

We are particularly seeking Directors with proven experience in one of the following areas:

  • Government Relations / Public Policy – deep understanding of the political and policy environment, with experience influencing outcomes through effective advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and navigating government processes. Your insights and relationships will help RSPCA SA remain a respected and trusted voice in shaping legislation, regulation, and policy that impacts animals and their welfare.
  • Retail / Commercial Operations – demonstrated success in leading retail or commercial operations, including strategy, customer engagement, growth, and operational excellence. Your expertise will support our ambitious expansion of RSPCA Op Shops across South Australia, ensuring they continue to thrive as both a retail success and a vital source of funding for our mission.

The Role

As a Non-Executive Director, you will:

  • Contribute to the strategic direction and governance of RSPCA South Australia.
  • Provide oversight of risk, performance, and compliance to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Offer specialist insights that strengthen decision-making at a Board and committee level.
  • Champion RSPCA South Australia's vision and values within your networks and the wider community.

Board meetings are held regularly in Adelaide, and Directors are also expected to contribute to Board committees. AICD qualifications or equivalent governance experience will be highly regarded.
