What can I expect in a typical day working day as a Short Order Cook at Connections Cafe

As a social enterprise cafe, Connections provides meaningful vocational opportunities for people with disabilities looking for real-world hospitality and customer service experience and to unleash their inner barista, cook and waiter / waitress.

Our Cafe kitchen is a busy hub and we are seeking a skilled cook who will work to prepare breakfast and lunch meals for our customers, Our menu is tasty, wholesome food and we pride ourselves in our customer service and commitment to our local community.

Working as our Connections Cafe Short Order Cook:

  • You will step in and run the kitchen for all day to day service delivery

  • You will be responsible for end to end food preparation for menu items and catering

  • Cook menu items - short order grill work and food plating

  • Bake items for sale in the cafe and catering orders, sometimes with help of one of our keen Trainees

  • Support Trainees in the kitchen to learn how to prepare food and manage other kitchen tasks

  • General kitchen duties, cleaning, dishes etc

What are the requirements to become a Short Order Cook?

  • Proven experience as a Short Order Cook

  • Will be a clam, patient person who enjoys training others

  • Experience with stock rotation, and food safety

  • Proven experience multitasking and time management skills

  • Ability to work autonomously and an active problem solver

  • Great communication skills and enjoy teaching others

  • Food Handling Certificate preferred

  • Have or be willing to get a Disability Worker Screening and Blue card

  • Dedicated to empowering others and making a difference
