Workplace Safety & Environmental Compliance Officer
Location: Townsville, Queensland

Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 per year (Full-Time Equivalent)
Hours: 20 – 40 hours per week
Mine Safety and Compliance (MSCQLD) is a trusted provider of workplace safety and environmental compliance services. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Workplace Safety & Environmental Compliance Officer to join our team and help clients maintain safe and compliant operations.
Responsibilities:
- Safety and Compliance Audits: Conduct comprehensive audits of client practices against the Mining Act, WHS Acts and Regulations, and Australian Standards to ensure full regulatory compliance.
- Environmental and Site Safety Inspections: Perform thorough site inspections of physical working conditions and processes to maintain a safe work environment and meet all environmental standards.
- Emergency Equipment: Conduct Audit and repair of emergency shower and eyewash stations to ensure readiness and compliance with AS
- First Aid Gear: Perform regular inspections and maintenance of first-aid and safety equipment.
- Safety Signage: Survey sites to ensure all signage is compliant with WHS Acts and Regulations and meets the specifications of AS 1319.
II. Dangerous Goods and Spill Management
- Liquid Bund Surveys: Inspect, survey and perform calculations on liquid bunds to ensure compliance with Australian standards for the safe storage of flammable and combustible liquids.
- Dangerous Goods Cabinet Audits: Audit cabinets to ensure they are fully functioning and compliant with standards such as AS 1940, AS 3780, and AS 2714.
- Spill Kit Servicing: Manage the Spill Kit Service Program (supply, audit, and restocking) to ensure continuous compliance with WHS Regulations.
- Training: Design and deliver a training program on emergency and chemical spill management, ensuring full WHS compliance. Key areas of focus include checks on safety equipment handling and emergency system (safety shower) protocols.
III. Investigation and Reporting
- Incident Investigation: Assist in the investigation of workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine causes and collect evidence of WHS non-compliance.
- Reporting and Advisory: Prepare detailed, statutory-compliant inspection reports and issue formal corrective actions, advising clients on immediate and practical ways to achieve legislative compliance.
Candidate requirements:
· Experience & Knowledge: A minimum of 3 years of highly relevant industry experience is essential. This must be coupled with demonstrated knowledge of the WHS Act and Mining Act for Queensland, and a strong, practical understanding of the referenced Australian Standards (e.g., AS 4775, AS 1940, AS 1319)
· Qualifications: A formal qualification assessed as comparable to an AQF Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, WHS Compliance, or a related technical field is required. (A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is highly regarded but not essential.)
· Key Attributes: Demonstrated hands-on experience in auditing and inspection against technical standards, especially relating to hazardous materials and environmental compliance. Strong communication skills for producing formal compliance reports and conducting training. Current full Queensland Driver's License and willingness to undertake frequent travel to remote areas throughout regional far north Queensland.
Please Note: The role will require regular travel to regional areas throughout Queensland. Some client sites require the successful applicant to undertake pre-employment medicals and drug & alcohol testing.
