The Screen Goals Mentor will help emerging Deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent film, TV and/or video production creatives in North East England to identify, plan steps towards and evaluate screen-related goals, or signpost them to other relevant organisations and opportunities within the region.
There are two specific programmes that the role is connected to
Focus First: a talent development initiative for Disabled and Neurodivergent filmmakers, funded by Newcastle Cultural Investment Fund
Focus Forward: funded by Esmee Fairburn, it supports pathways into screen employment for 30 disabled and/or neurodivergent creatives over 3 years, which equates to 10 per year, living in the North East.
Duties
Management Support
- Receiving and co-ordinating mentoring applications.
 - Co-ordinating mentoring meetings.
 - Being the first point of contact, and co-ordinator for 3 paid filmmaker placements per year
 
Mentoring
Support members (mainly on a one-to-one basis) to decide:
a. their individual screen-related goals,
b. an action plan of 'next steps' to get closer to those goals
Regularly check in on learners' progress, and help them to decide what changes they should make to the steps they are taking.
- Keep a record of each meeting, how goals and the steps to reach them have evolved
 - Have in-depth evaluative conversations and carry out surveys with learners to identify the successes and challenges they are encountering both in relation to reaching their goals, and also more broadly in relation to their work with Beacon Films
 - Support learners directly with elements of their action plan where possible.
 - Signpost support and opportunities – both internally within Beacon Films - and externally where necessary.
 - Be mindful of safeguarding considerations at all times, particularly when signposting involves referring individuals to work with outside organisations (training and guidance regarding this will be provided by Beacon Films).
 - Check in regularly with Beacon Films line management regarding progress, concerns and successes.
 - Other reasonable duties as assigned
