The Opportunity
We are seeking a Maintenance Officer to provide support to our North Shore Private Hospital. In this role, you will undertake all assigned maintenance duties, including work related to general hospital maintenance including planned and reactive maintenance. You will be reporting to the Maintenance Manager and working alongside preferred supplies, ensuring all work carried out by contractors is within the planned budget. On occasions you may also be required to carry out jobs at either of the two other smaller hospitals in the North Shore Network, Castlecrag and North Shore Private Hospitals.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance duties including patching, plastering, painting, basic plumbing, lighting, gutters, tiling, air conditioning, and general repairs.
- Complete both planned and responsive maintenance tasks.
- Monitor and manage work completed by external contractors to ensure safety, quality, and budget compliance.
- Maintain up-to-date records of maintenance activities and ensure adherence to relevant hospital policies and procedures.
- Participate in the after-hours on-call roster.
- Support procurement of supplies and recommend capital upgrades or equipment replacements where necessary.
- Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards and OH&S regulations.
- Identify maintenance improvement opportunities across the facility and act proactively.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will be a positive and effective team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to develop relationships with colleagues and customers. You will have the ability to ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to and work is carried out in a tidy safe manner. You will be able to provide a comprehensive maintenance service that complies with legislative standards, corporate policy guidelines and approved Hospital budgets.
Essential
- Demonstrated experience in general maintenance roles (patching, plumbing, painting, etc.).
- Experience managing and supervising contractors or maintenance staff.
- Knowledge of Australian building and hospital maintenance standards.
- Computer literacy and confidence in using digital systems for tracking and reporting.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively to unexpected maintenance issues.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Desirable
- Trade qualification in a relevant field (e.g., carpentry, electrical, plumbing).
- Previous experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Experience in a supervisory role.
- Current unrestricted Driver's Licence.
