Formation Technology is seeking an experienced cloud engineer with strong technical and communication skills who has a deep understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its various services, as well as a strong background in full stack development and DevOps. Additional experience with Azure DevOps Services will be highly regarded.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the
AWS Cloud Engineer
supports designing, building, and maintaining the AWS infrastructure for internal and external clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Build and manage scalable AWS infrastructure using best practice design and implementation
  • Architect highly available, scalable, and fault-tolerant solutions using a variety of AWS services like EC2, VPC, WAF, S3, RDS, Gateway, Application Load balancer, IAM, Athena, QuickSight and CloudFormation.
  • Configure and manage AWS security features, including IAM roles and policies, VPC security groups, and encryption mechanisms.
  • Configure networks (VPCs, subnets, peering, NAT, Transit Gateway)
  • Maintain security (Network Firewall, Web Application Firewall)
  • Automate provisioning and deployment with CI/CD, Lambda, EventBridge, Step Functions
  • Monitor the health, performance, and cost of AWS infrastructure using cloud monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and AWS Cost Explorer.
  • Partner with engineering, security, and ops to deliver infrastructure solutions
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Improve DevOps workflows and engineering standards
  • Implement and optimise AWS cost-saving tools and practices.
  • Manage and enhance Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

About you

A successful applicant should possess many or all of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on AWS experience supporting production environments.
  • Strong understanding of AWS services and best practices, including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, ECS, and others.
  • Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or CDK.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, AWS CodePipeline, GitLab CI/CD).
  • Proven capability in BAU DevOps tasks including VM creation, troubleshooting, backups, and cloud migrations.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS cost optimisation tools and practices.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, and routing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or other relevant certification.
  • Knowledge of other cloud platforms e.g., Azure is a plus.
