About us

headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team at headspace Wollongong work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people.

Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency of headspace Kiama.  We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services across NSW and the ACT.

About the position

As a Community Engagement Officer, you will play a key role in coordinating community awareness raising activities in the region. You will promote and enhance the understanding of the services offered at headspace Kiama as well as promote early help seeking to improve early access to health and other services for young people who have (or may be at risk of) developing a mental health and/or substance use disorder or have physical and sexual health needs or vocational support needs.

Together, with the Service Manager, and other Community Engagement Officers, you will represent the centre at community forums and events as well as develop local partnerships that ensure the centre is an integrated part of the youth health and wellbeing sector.

This position is available part time (15 hours per week), fixed term until 30 June 2026 with the possibility for extension.

We are looking for someone with:

  1. A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, and/or extensive experience in community development, health promotion, public health, social sciences or education.
  2. Proven ability to engage and communicate to groups of people (including public speaking), tailoring communication to suit a specific target group or age range.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems.
  4. Ability to manage and prioritise a range of tasks and projects simultaneously.
