The Opportunity

As Principal Native Title, you will provide you will provide expert advice and strategic guidance to management and internal stakeholders on all native title matters, whilst ensuring best practice and compliance, overseeing native title processes, policies, and statutory obligations is alignment across the business.

You'll have the opportunity to influence positive outcomes through effective management of native title and heritage agreements, while working closely with Traditional Owners and key stakeholders. If you're solutions-focused and ready for a meaningful leadership role, we'd love to hear from you.

For this role you will be based at our MinRes HQ Office located in Osborne Park, reporting directly to the Manager Native Title and Strategy. Occasionally onsite travel is required to oversee our projects.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Coordinate complex exploration and mining title applications and provide advice on the application of Native Title legislation and regulatory processes to inform decision making.
  • Provide advice on governance best practice and improvement opportunity and work closely with internal stakeholders to assess goals relating to legislative reform.
  • Assist in the negotiation and modernisation of current, acquired and future native title agreements with native title parties to secure land access and maintain positive relationships.
  • Prepare documents and provide instructions to legal counsel as required.
  • Ensure company compliance with MinRes native title agreements including the minuting of related meetings and engagements, drafting notifications and preparing complex briefing papers.
  • Undertake effective native title research and consultation to meet MinRes project objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with Native Title Partners, Operational leaders, and teams to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes and relationships.
  • Develop and maintain native title information and management systems and schedules and coordinate internal and external stakeholder participation to ensure compliance with native title agreement obligations.

What is required?

  • Tertiary qualification in legal or equivalent similar field or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in Native Title with demonstrated experience working with Traditional Owners
  • Experience working in the mining and resources industry.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and Agreements, manage risk and assurance.
  • Demonstrated experience with crafting and delivery of strategies and ability to drive technical excellence in native title management and community engagement.
  • Leadership experience and effective influencing skills when engaging with team members and senior leaders internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with and engaging with traditional owners and their representatives.
