The OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing team. This is a pivotal role that will ensure the integrity of BNTAC's financial operations, compliance, and reporting. Reporting to the CFO, you will oversee day-to-day financial activities, support governance and risk management, and provide trusted financial advice to enable BNTAC to deliver on its strategic and community priorities.

Key Responsibilities- Oversee financial operations including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and cash flow management.
- Deliver accurate and timely month-end and year-end processes, including accruals, provisions, and reconciliations.
- Support preparation of annual financial statements and external audits.
- Maintain registers for grants, contracts, and insurance while tracking obligations and compliance requirements.
- Review and approve payroll journals, invoices, purchase orders, and funding payments.
- Ensure compliance with relevant employment awards, tax obligations, and superannuation requirements.
- Contribute to the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and Board reporting.
- Supervise and mentor junior finance staff.
- Drive process improvements and strengthen internal controls.
You're highly detail-oriented, steady under pressure, and able to balance the demands of day-to-day finance with the bigger strategic picture.
You will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CA/CPA highly desirable).
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role preferred.
- Strong knowledge of month-end/year-end processes.
- Proven ability to prepare financial statements and audit files.
- Excellent Excel skills and financial systems literacy (Xero proficiency highly desirable).
- Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring finance staff.
- High attention to detail, with excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and respect when working with Aboriginal people and communities.
Experience in not-for-profit organisations or Aboriginal Corporations will be highly regarded.
