SAP S/4HANA Payroll Expert (Functional or Technical)

We are seeking an experienced SAP S/4HANA Payroll Expert to lead the design, configuration, and ongoing optimisation of payroll solutions within SAP HCM on S/4HANA (H4S4) and/or SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll (ECP). The role will be accountable for delivering compliant, efficient, and integrated payroll solutions that connect seamlessly with S/4HANA Finance and upstream HR and time systems.

ECP: SAP's cloud-based payroll integrated with S/4HANA Finance.

H4S4: On-premise HCM solution running on the S/4HANA platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery workshops with HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT teams.
  • Document fit-gap analyses, process maps, and non-functional requirements.
  • Configure payroll schemas, PCRs, wage types, infotypes, and retroactive logic.
  • Manage off-cycle processing, year-end activities, and exception handling.
  • (Technical focus) Develop or enhance payroll-related integrations, ABAP reports, and extensions.
  • Design and support integrations: EC ECP replication, time/benefits feeds, posting to S/4HANA GL.
  • Define and execute data migration, reconciliation, parallel runs, and cutover strategies.
  • Establish defect triage, testing (unit, SIT, UAT), and audit-ready documentation.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with tax, legislative, and audit requirements.
  • Provide steady-state support for pay cycle monitoring, RCA of incidents, and optimisation.
  • Collaborate with Finance on payroll postings, reconciliations, and performance improvement.
  • Advise senior stakeholders, present options/trade-offs, and recommend best practices.
  • Mentor business super-users and junior analysts to uplift capability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in SAP Payroll configuration (S/4HANA HCM/H4S4 and/or SuccessFactors ECP).
  • Strong knowledge of schemas, PCRs, wage type configuration, and payroll process design.
  • Hands-on payroll administration experience (end-to-end cycles, reconciliations, parallel runs).
  • Proven consulting background with client-facing delivery and stakeholder management.
  • Technical/Integration Exposure
  • EC ECP replication, CPI, IDocs, web services.
  • Payroll posting to S/4HANA Finance.
  • (Technical path) ABAP, custom payroll reports, interface enhancements.
  • Delivery Discipline
  • Strong testing and cutover planning experience.
  • Ability to produce high-quality functional specifications, BRDs, RTMs, and training materials.
  • Experience delivering in a global payroll landscape, managing regional variations within a consistent framework.

Desirable Skills

  • Time & attendance systems (e.g., Kronos/Workforce).
  • SuccessFactors EC Core HR.
  • Familiarity with SAP Payroll Control Center (PCC) configuration and design.
  • S/4HANA Finance knowledge.
