Permanent Role - Cloud Security Engineer based in Upper North Shore.
Overview
The Cloud Security Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end management of the organisation's cloud infrastructure and security operations.
This stand-alone role combines cloud systems engineering with cybersecurity expertise, ensuring a secure, resilient, and compliant Azure cloud environment.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical depth in Microsoft Azure, M365, and Entra ID, alongside hands-on experience in threat hunting, vulnerability management, and application control.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain secure Azure cloud infrastructure and related services (IaaS, PaaS).
- Manage and secure cloud-based servers, ensuring performance, scalability, and high availability.
- Uplift and maintain controls aligned to the Essential 8 and other recognised security frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST CSF, ISM).
- Perform vulnerability scanning, assessment, and remediation using Tenable or equivalent tools.
- Conduct threat hunting, incident investigation, and coordinate incident response and reporting activities.
- Administer and optimise Sophos firewalls, ensuring secure and efficient network connectivity.
- Implement and maintain security configurations across M365, Azure AD / Entra ID, and Sentinel.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, network diagrams, and security policies.
- Collaborate with the IT Operations & Security Manager to align cloud and security operations with organisational goals and compliance obligations.
- Support automation and infrastructure-as-code initiatives using PowerShell or similar scripting tools.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5+ years' experience in cloud systems engineering and/or cloud security roles.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including governance, compliance, and architecture.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining Essential 8 maturity model controls.
- Expertise in vulnerability management and remediation using tools such as Tenable, Nessus, or Qualys.
- Experience with Azure Sentinel for security monitoring and analytics.
- In-depth understanding of M365, Entra ID (Azure AD), and endpoint security.
- Experience managing and securing firewalls (Sophos preferred).
- Knowledge of modern security frameworks (Essential 8, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, ISM).
- Scripting and automation proficiency (PowerShell, Python or equivalent).
- Proven experience in incident response, threat detection, and application control.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a stand-alone engineering and security role.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 5–10 years of IT and security experience.
- Certifications preferred:
- CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)
- CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate or equivalent.
