Senior Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Overseeing the planning, deployment, maintenance, and management of Azure cloud infrastructure and services to ensure system availability, performance, and security across multiple environments within Microsoft Azure.

  • Apply your advanced Azure skills supported by relevant Microsoft certifications across an evolving Cloud Services platform
  • Permanent, broad-spectrum role supporting multiple Azure environments, across an international footprint
  • Mature Fintech committed to service, innovation, and excellence, providing world-class core banking platforms to clients.

This is an opportunity for a candidate with 5+ years' hands-on Azure experience, a strong background in cloud infrastructure, and relevant Microsoft certifications (AZ-104 mandatory, AZ-305 or equivalent highly desirable).

With a passion for building scalable platforms, you will contribute to solution planning, implementation, and the ongoing management of the Azure infrastructure underpinning our services. You will be excited by the breadth of the role and motivated by the chance to help evolve a strategically critical function.

While you'll work closely with development and engineering teams, this is an infrastructure-focused position rather than a DevOps role.

About Ultradata:

Ultradata, headquartered in Melbourne (in East Malvern), is a long-established business with 48 years of experience and a trusted technology business partner to significant financial institutions across the Australian and Asia Pacific financial services market.

The role:

As a Senior Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will:

  • Provide advanced support for Azure infrastructure, diagnosing complex issues and delivering sustainable solutions
  • Plan, implement, and support scalable, reliable, and secure Azure technologies aligned to client needs and industry best practices
  • Configure and manage key Azure services including VMs, VNets, storage, Azure SQL Database, Azure App Services, and hybrid connectivity
  • Use Azure-native tools (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, Defender for Cloud) to deliver observability, visibility, and security across infrastructure and applications
  • Proactively identify and remediate risks related to performance, security, availability, and capacity using telemetry, metrics, and alerts
  • Participate in capacity planning, operational reviews, and health checks to drive continuous improvement of the platform
  • Define and manage backup, replication, and disaster recovery solutions to ensure resilience and business continuity
  • Collaborate with architects and stakeholders on cloud migration and transformation projects, ensuring smooth and secure transitions
  • Maintain clear documentation, standards, and internal knowledge bases to support governance and repeatability
  • Take part in incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for Azure production issues

What do we mean by broad spectrum?

Across any given week, you may be involved in any or all of deploying and configuring Azure infrastructure, managing and implementing security measures, database management, project management or complex troubleshooting and support tasks.

As such, the
Ideal Person
must have a passion for technology and a deep commitment to internal and external client service. You should also bring to the table:

  • Prior experience in a Microsoft Azure Engineer / Infrastructure Engineer / Cloud Administrator role
  • Strong knowledge of Azure services, including VMs, App Services, Azure SQL Database, Azure Active Directory, and Azure Storage
  • Familiarity with cloud architecture principles, including secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure solutions
  • In-depth knowledge of networking and security concepts: VPNs, DNS, firewalls, NSGs, SIEM, and zero-trust models
  • Understanding of cloud security best practices, including identity and access management, encryption, and threat protection
  • Working knowledge of both RHEL Linux and Windows Server in Azure environments
  • Competency in managing cloud databases, including SQL Server on Azure
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates)
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex Azure issues with a systematic approach
  • Relevant Microsoft Azure certifications:
  • Mandatory: AZ-104 (Azure Administrator)
  • Preferred: AZ-305 (Solutions Architect), AZ-500 (Security), or equivalent
  • Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent commercial experience in managing Azure environments

Great communication skills – tick. Team Player, tick. Easy to deal with – tick

A willingness to work out of hours (if required) to support local clients with 'out of standard business hours' requirements and international clients we support.
