About the role

This position is responsible for providing high level public policy and advocacy advice. They will be responsible for developing and maintaining the Lord Mayor's positive relations with internal and external stakeholders, including the management of correspondence, community engagements, communications and social media. This position provides high level support to the Lord Mayor, as well as attendance at events on behalf of the Lord Mayor and GM of Office of the Lord Mayor & CEO.

  • Provide high level support to the Lord Mayor and GM, OLM & CEO.
  • Lead and manage Mayoral activities to ensure the provision of excellent customer focussed activities to the Lord Mayor and external parties and clients.
  • Prepare and manage high quality impactful communication materials, including briefings, speeches, thought-leadership pieces, communications, correspondent and reports.
  • Work with the GM OLM & CEO to conduct research and analysis to assist in the submission of reports to Council and the Executive Team.
  • Ensure that communications with the media team on matters concerning the programs and services of Council are maintained in order, to manage the issues with may emerge and to present positive image of Council.
  • Provide guidance, leadership & coaching to team members to ensure high quality of service delivery is provided to key stakeholders.
  • Prepare briefing notes, position papers and coordinate research projects for both internal and external use on public policy.

About You:

  • Degree qualification in political science, economics, business administration or other relevant discipline.
  • Current NSW Driver's License.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience & demonstrated achievement in a highly politicised, sensitive and demanding working environment.
  • Record of achievement as a strong influencer at a senior level, based on an ability to build credible & confidential relationships and deliver progressive solutions which comply with corporate standards and current legislation.
  • Ability to provide specialist, expert and strategic development and policy advice on complex and sensitive matters.
  • Well-developed ability to build & nurture a cohesive team and establish effective relationships that achieve tangible outcomes.
  • Superior written communication skills in preparing speeches, briefing notes and appropriate supporting materials.
  • Ability to develop networks with a wide range of industry, government and community groups.Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills

What's on offer

This is a 6 month term contract. This position is a Grade 18 from $149,428 to $165,645 plus 11.5% superannuation.
