We are currently seeking a proactive and experienced AO4 Senior Accounts Payable Officer to join a high-performing government Accounts Payable team on a 6-month contract basis, with a strong potential for extension.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a supportive and collaborative team environment located in Brisbane's CBD, contributing to vital financial operations within a fast-paced government department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate transactional-based financial services to ensure data accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee day-to-day AP operations including:
  • Checking and posting documents into the system
  • Managing coding and workflow of incoming AP invoices
  • Overseeing independent vendor verifications with service providers
  • Support and guide a small team of AP processors, including onboarding and training of new staff.
  • Act as a key point of contact for operational issues and escalations related to accounts payable.
  • Respond to queries from various stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Review and develop workflows, procedures, and internal controls to drive efficiency.
  • Assist in financial issue resolution and identification of process improvements.
  • Ensure AP activities align with relevant legislation, professional standards, and organisational policies.

About You:

  • Must have previous experience in a similar Senior AP role, ideally within a government or large-scale organisation
  • Strong working knowledge of financial systems and AP processes (experience with Connect is highly regarded)
  • Confident in supervising small teams and supporting team performance
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing competing priorities
  • Passionate about continuous improvement and providing high-quality service
