About VegWatch:
The Vegetable Industry Biosecurity and Business Continuity Strategy (VegWatch) is a national program delivered by AUSVEG. The investment is developing and delivering a framework that supports innovative, collaborative and adaptable systems and tools for growers, supply chain partners and regulatory agencies. This framework, in collaboration with other projects and activities, will form the foundation for industry biosecurity preparedness and responsiveness.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Program Manager - Biosecurity, the Surveillance Coordinator will coordinate industry engagement and surveillance activities for target pests to deliver key objectives and outcomes of the VegWatch program. Engaging directly with vegetable growers, industry partners and community the role requires a versatile, motivated individual, capable of organising and contributing to a range of activities involving communication, operational and administrative tasks. Some travel will be required.
This is a fixed term contract until August 2028 based in Glen Iris, Victoria.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and support relevant communication resources and engagement activities including workshops, presentations, articles and social media.
Coordinate sampling activities for target vegetable pests in partnership with the AUSVEG biosecurity and extension team, VegNet Regional Development Officers and VegWatch program partners.
Implement systems to capture high-quality, nationally consistent pest sampling data into an existing central database.
Maintain accurate records and databases.
Provide support to broader program, biosecurity team and organisation when requested.
Key experience:
Qualifications in communication or extension, agricultural/horticultural science or similar, and 2-3 years of relevant experience in the same
Competence in the collection, collation and presentation of field data
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Working within a team, demonstrating the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
Understanding of the agricultural industry would be beneficial.

Attention to detail, accuracy and quality
A team-orientated disposition and a can-do mindset
Capacity to manage multiple priorities at any one time
Very strong oral & written communication, with active listening skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) and other relevant software. Design skills are an advantage.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel domestically
