Fixed Term, Part Time Role – 48 Hours per Fortinght

We are offering a part-time, fixed-term opportunity to join our Infection Prevention team as a Project Nurse in a parental leave cover role, from 12th January 2026 until 5th October 2026
Position Overview:
In this part-time fixed-term role, you will be responsible for leading and managing infection prevention quality improvement projects. These projects will involve audits, surveillance activities, and research initiatives, all designed to reduce infections and enhance patient safety.
Working alongside a team of experienced infection prevention nurses and healthcare professionals, you will contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based infection prevention strategies aligned with Peter Mac's strategic priorities.
This role provides the opportunity to take on a clinical leadership position and contribute to improving patient outcomes through effective infection prevention practices, all while working in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage infection prevention quality improvement projects, including audits, surveillance, and research activities.
• Collaborate with Infection Prevention Nurses and multidisciplinary teams to implement strategic infection prevention priorities.
• Develop and execute project plans under the guidance of the Infection Prevention Manager and CNCs.
• Monitor, report on, and analyse project progress using data management tools and Microsoft 365.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of infection prevention practices, in line with National Quality Standards.
Essential Requirements:
• AHPRA Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years post-graduate experience.
• Demonstrated experience or strong interest in Infection Prevention.
• Strong understanding of clinical risk management practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in data management and proficiency in Microsoft 365.
• Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety.
• Ability to influence and drive change in clinical practice.
• Desirable Requirements:
• Consideration to work towards accreditation as a Nurse Immuniser.
• Interest in training as a Hand Hygiene Auditor.
• Recent experience or demonstrated interest in project management.

Remuneration as per Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement Clinical Support Nurse (RN28): $110, full-time equivalent - to be prorated for Part Time). To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Position SummaryThe role of the Infection Prevention Project Nurse is to work on a range of infection prevention quality improvement projects which may involve audit, surveillance activities or projects using research methodologies and principles targeting priority infections, surveillance, or quality improvement opportunities. This is a position of clinical leadership and accountability that aligns with Peter Mac's values, with a focus on improving health outcomes for patients. You will be working along-side experienced infection prevention nurses with expertise in surveillance and clinical audit who share knowledge and assist each other in project management contributing to the effective management and coordination of infection prevention initiatives.
The Infection Prevention Project Nurse will work as a member of the Infection Prevention team to develop and implement the dedicated project role in line with infection prevention strategic priorities. Working independently and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary leadership team, supported by the Infection Prevention CNCs and under the direction of the IP Manager.

Key Accountabilities
1.Surveillance of hospital associated infections including
- Undertakes training in investigations of outbreaks and incidents within or related to the IP service and provides timely reports and recommendations to minimise risk.
- Positively influences practice changes to meet standards, practice guidelines and evidenced based practice.
2. Data Analysis and reporting
- VICNISS reporting MRSA, VRE, C.diff, SSI, CLIP, Hand hygiene (National) & Occupational exposures monthly
- Quarterly VICNISS and KPI reports to Infection Prevention Committee and Quality Committees
- Participates in analysis of the annual health care worker influenza program and maintenance of the staff vaccination database.
- Employs the skills of timely and effective communication with healthcare personnel and teams to guide and achieve optimal patient/ performance outcomes.
3. Continual professional development
- Maintains mandatory training requirements specified by Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

- Trained in planning and delivery of orientation requirements for new staff including Medical and Nursing.

- Promotes a culture of continuous improvement by facilitating monitoring of practice. Contributes to the design of interventions to improve clinical practice.
- Contributes to policy development and review, procedure and clinical practice protocols.
- Work effectively with consumers to optimise patient experience by evaluating IP programs and services
6.Other Duties
- Assist with annual influenza vaccination planning including timetabling and organizing vaccinators.
- Assist with maintenance of the staff vaccination database.
- Managing of Occupational Exposure program including educating occupational exposure coordinators.
