Empirical Solutions is seeking a highly motivated Systems Safety Engineer to join our growing engineering team. Based in Canberra, this full-time role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to mission-critical capability by providing specialist safety, compliance, and engineering support across acquisition and sustainment activities.

You will play a key role in ensuring system safety, quality assurance, and engineering excellence – enabling secure and reliable outcomes for critical national programs.

What You'll Be Doing

As a trusted member of our engineering team, you will:

• Oversee and coordinate Systems Safety and Work Health & Safety (WHS) across acquisition and sustainment activities
• Provide governance and assurance that safety and WHS objectives are met throughout the project lifecycle
• Develop, manage, and maintain engineering documentation suites
• Provide formal engineering advice and exercise delegated engineering authority
• Maintain and update technical risk registers and mitigation strategies
• Review and provide engineering feedback on contractor deliverables to support solution implementation
• Collaborate with engineering colleagues to organise and facilitate workshops, reviews, and design activities
• Support compliance with quality management system (QMS) requirements
• Contribute to the professional development of colleagues and share expertise across the team
• Assist senior engineering managers with technical and governance tasks

What We're Looking For

We welcome applications from professionals who bring:

• Chartered Professional Engineer status (Engineers Australia or equivalent) or eligibility to attain chartered status
• Tertiary qualifications in Systems Engineering (or equivalent professional experience)
• Knowledge of structured capability acquisition processes and systems engineering frameworks
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with proven ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience, including the ability to coach and support colleagues
• Familiarity with structured contracting frameworks and engineering assurance processe
• Active Australian Security Clearance

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

You'll be highly regarded if you also bring:

• Prior experience in capability projects within complex technical environments
• Understanding of technical, operational, and logistical requirements in capability delivery
• Experience managing cross-functional engineering teams in complex or safety-critical environments
• Knowledge of policy, legislation, and regulatory frameworks relevant to safety and systems engineering

Expected Salary

$150,000+ (dependent on successful candidates background)
