This is an excellent opportunity to join our dynamic team where your passion for diagnostic medicine and gross specimen examination will be nurtured and developed.

The Opportunity

As a Scientific Officer (Complex Dissection), this role will support our histology service with a focus on simple and complex surgical pathology. It offers an exceptional opportunity to train in Anatomical Pathology with direct exposure to a wide range of surgical specimens from a range of healthcare providers. You will work closely with other laboratory staff and our pathologists to deliver high quality diagnostic outcomes and contribute to continuous service improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and Display our core values at all times.
  • Perform macroscopic dissection (cut up) of surgical specimens under Pathologist supervision
  • Attend educational sessions/training internally and externally
  • Collaborate closely with laboratory staff and Consultant Pathologists
  • Engage in quality improvement and/or other projects as required within the department

Applicants should possess the following:

  • A relevant degree in Medical Science (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience in specimen dissection in an anatomical pathology laboratory
  • Sound knowledge of anatomy, histology and pathology terminology
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen handling and documentation
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated personal qualities including effective communication skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to professional development.
  • Strong interest in diagnostic anatomical pathology particularly in gross dissection and surgical pathology
