The Museum of Australian Speed Icon Restorations operates a museum of classic RAAF and RAF WWII fighter aircraft, with inline V12's and radial engines at Shellharbour Airport. This includes three flying Supermarine Spitfires (Mark V, Mark IX and Mark XIV), North American Mustang P51 and Wirraway plus Sea Fury projects. We are proud to stand as one of Australia's most interesting and growing fleets of flying Warbird aircraft.
Based at Shell Harbour, our Museum is committed to providing exceptional maintenance and the highest standards of safety and professionalism. As we grow the collection we are seeking an experienced Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME), B1.2. The position is full-time and based at Shell Harbour Bankstown Airport, with flexible working arrangements available to suit the right candidate.
About The MuseumWe are building a historic collection of flying eight flying aircraft to celebrate the men and women who served Australia in the WW2 era. The Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (B1) is a critical role within our organisation, responsible for the ongoing maintenance, repair, and technical oversight of these classic and beautiful aircraft.
Key Responsibilities· Conduct scheduled annual maintenance and repair rectification which includes unscheduled maintenance and inspections in accordance with CASA regulations, Australian Warbird Association requirements and Museum policies.
· Work collaboratively with other engineers, pilots, and operational staff to maintain high standards of aircraft safety and performance.
· Maintain accurate and thorough records in maintenance tracking systems via Aerotrack.
· Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities, staying current with advancements in aviation technology and regulatory requirements.
· Diagnose technical issues, troubleshoot, and provide clear recommendations for corrective actions.
· Ensure all maintenance work complies with relevant aviation legislation, safety standards, and manufacturer specifications.· Assist with the induction and mentoring of new team members where required.
· Communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation, fostering a culture of transparency, safety, and continuous improvement.
Experience· Fleet Experience: Previous work on older vintage aircraft is advantageous. More important is a commitment to teamwork and high professional standards. You should possess the following:
· Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency:
· Current CASA License – Category B1.2 is essential
· Minimum 10 Years' Experience as a LAME: Demonstrating a solid understanding of the Civil Aviation Regulations and hands-on experience in aircraft maintenance.
· Minimum 6-10 years of aircraft maintenance experience is required for this position.
· Problem-Solving Skills is vital along with an aptitude for diagnosing technical problems and delivering concise, actionable recommendations.
· Excellent Communication skills to engage with colleagues, management, and external stakeholders at all levels, ensuring clarity and professionalism in all interactions.
· Drug and Alcohol Screening: Capacity to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening under the Drug and Alcohol Management Plan (DAMP).
· Security Clearance: Eligibility to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
· Minimum of 5+ years of General Aviation experience is required along with a current driver's licence and computer literacy.
