Join our established consulting team as
Senior Electrical Design Engineer
in Sydney and work alongside a regional network of energy experts on a mix of Australian and international projects. You'll contribute to power and renewable energy developments ranging from small-scale systems to utility-scale generation and storage.
Projects span technologies such as Electrical Supply Industry Transmission and Distribution works, large load customer connections, distributed energy resource connections and centralised generator connections. solar PV, battery storage, onshore and offshore wind, pumped hydro, and hydrogen. Your work will include HV and MV mains design, substation design, power system studies, grid connection modelling, renewable energy assessments, and both front-end and detailed engineering design.
This role offers variety, autonomy, and the chance to build your expertise while being supported by experienced professionals.
The Opportunity
- You will work without supervision, referring up as necessary. In achieving this you will be responsible for meeting deadlines, monitoring budgets and controlling expenditure to meet financial targets in your own area.
- You will represent Arup at internal and external events and you may be responsible for designing and delivering events, activities and projects which impact the business.
- You may be responsible for the performance and development of others through providing guidance, training, direction and feedback.

Is this role right for you?
- Demonstrable experience in the concept and detailed design of onshore and offshore electrical substations (MV and HV).
- Ability to lead a design team (or a component thereof), having developed design skills from primary substation design.
- Ability to lead a design team (or a component thereof), having developed design skills from overhead and underground mains design.
- Good working knowledge of associated software packages necessary for design of electrical and power systems (incl. but not limited to AutoCAD, ETAP, PLS-CADD, CYMCAP, CDEGS).
- Has extensive knowledge, keeps up to date with current industry information and own knowledge and skills and Australian Standards.
- Preferably has familiarity with National Electricity Rules (NER).
