Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Optus Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

Optus is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist for their Transmission Core team. The role involves providing technical leadership for the Common Core Transmission Network, focusing on DWDM, Core Sync, and legacy transport platforms.

Key responsibilities include end-to-end design, performance, and planning functions, as well as testing, documenting, and implementing new designs. You will have in-depth knowledge of DWDM Optical Networks, Core Sync (PTP, SyncE, BITS), and secure Out of Band network management solutions.

Experience with major vendors like Nokia, Infinera, Ciena and Cisco is preferred. The role requires hands-on experience with network device configuration, the ability to work independently, and leadership skills to guide junior engineers and manage contractors and vendors.

The day to day

Balancing project commitments to the platform owner and business while still delivering outstanding standardised designs to Operations

Work with peers + lab managers on multiple projects in both Optus and LAB environment.

Keeping up with the constant changes in products and platform technologies

To facilitate transfer of information to staff to ensure all staff have the required level of competency to handle daily tasks performed by the group

Ensure that all tasks and issues assigned to you are resolved within the group's KPI's

Keeping abreast of processes and procedures within the group and continual review of these processes and procedures to facilitate work flow efficiencies

Solving difficult and/ or long term trends in the networks either by design, planning, architecture, support and/or implementation of platforms

Experience with Coherent 400G+ CDC/CDCF DWDM systems.

Expert understanding of fixed and flexible grid architectures, ROADM/FOADM.

Familiar with network topologies and optical components.

Expert using DWDM designs tools and evaluating network performance.

Knowledge of Core Synchronisation network infrastructure requirements.

Familiar with Synchronisation Hierarchy and Stratum levels.

Understanding of network standards and protocols.
