About the role:

The Project Officer role will foster local partnerships with the community and key stakeholders to support their ongoing participation in the CTG projects, initially under Priority Reforms One.

The role will work with the Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and Local Government to support their roles in the national partnership place-based projects. The Project Officer will oversee meetings, governance, communications, education, and broader stakeholder engagement.

Key Outcomes / Accountabilities for the Project Officer are summarised as follows but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and provide expert, timely and strategic policy advice, recommendations and information to support decision makers and deliver NSWALC initiatives in politically sensitive and complex environments.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with all levels of government and community-controlled organisations, reinforcing a shared understanding of the complementary roles that these stakeholders play in the project's success.
  • Foster trusted relationships with the local community and provide stewardship and representation of community needs and goals in relation to a Shared Decision-Making model, and work with the team to translate these into the design of a viable Place-Based Partnership arrangement.
  • Balance the various requirements and goals of project partners, reinforcing a shared vision and looking for opportunities for reciprocal benefit, as well as identifying risks and participating in respectful negotiation, as appropriate.
  • Facilitate an information-sharing culture among all partners by creating and maintaining mechanisms for information flow and communication and being visible as the primary point of contact for partners. This includes building formal Governance arrangements, negotiating the Terms of Reference and Formal Partnership Agreements within the respective areas.
  • Bring momentum and organisation to the project, keeping partners on track and accountable for their role in achieving milestones.
  • Contribute to the organisation, running, and success of regular meetings, forums, and workshops with project partners, representing NSWALC and NSW CAPO.
  • Retain a long-term vision for the partnership, harnessing lessons learned and identifying future opportunities beyond the completion or implementation of the project, including the co-design of solutions to address other key priorities for reform.
  • Act in accordance with NSWALC people policies and procedures, including WHS obligations, consistently applying high standards of probity and ethical behaviour.

Essential Criteria:

  • Aboriginality as authorised under Section 14(D) of the Anti-Discrimination Act, 1977 NSW.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the cultural practices, values, social and economic needs of Aboriginal people today.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively working with Aboriginal people and communities. Managing and balancing multiple stakeholder relationships, including navigating and communicating problems and issues requiring resolution.
  • Detailed knowledge and appreciation of the cultural, social and economic needs of Aboriginal peoples and demonstrated commitment and capacity to promote the rights, interests and aspirations of Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Project Officer role, in a regulated, political, community-based organisation or similar.
  • Experience managing divergent relationships with internal and external stakeholders, facilitating respectful negotiation and driving decision making.
  • Strong communication and information-sharing skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated political awareness and astuteness.
  • Strong organisational skills, the ability to plan and prioritise and solve problems and deliver results.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to represent NSW CAPO effectively.
