*About us:*
Walgett Shire Council proudly serves a diverse and unique region in the heart of outback New South Wales rich in history and natural beauty. Life in Walgett Shire offers the best of outback living—open skies, a strong sense of community, and endless opportunities to explore.
At Walgett Shire Council we have a people-first culture. Safety, our people, and service to the community are at the core of everything we do. We are looking for passionate and committed professionals who are aligned with our core values: Respect, Integrity, Ethical Conduct, Courage, Honesty, Accountability, and Responsibility.
*About the role:*
Walgett Shire Council is seeking an experienced Projects Manager to oversee the delivery of multiple capital and non-capital projects while supporting the coordination of asset management planning across the organisation.
This exciting role offers the opportunity to manage significant projects such as major road upgrades, and water infrastructure projects. In addition to leading these initiatives, you will contribute to the development and implementation of new Asset Management Plans, ensuring that Council's long-term planning is robust, sustainable, and aligned with community needs.
Living in either Walgett or Lightning Ridge, this permanent role provides the opportunity to deliver projects that make a real difference to local communities in a rural setting.
*About you:*
You will be a skilled project manager with proven experience in delivering multiple projects simultaneously, ideally in a local government or civil infrastructure environment. You bring strong knowledge of project and asset management principles, with the ability to coordinate frameworks, systems, and reporting processes across a diverse organisation.
Your qualifications will be in project management, engineering, asset management, or a related discipline, supported by excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to deliver outcomes in complex, resource-limited environments.
Most importantly, you align with our values of Respect, Integrity, Ethical Conduct, Courage, Honesty, Accountability, and Responsibility, and are committed to building a positive workplace culture.
At Walgett Shire Council, we understand that not every candidate will meet every criterion, and that is perfectly fine—your passion and potential matter most to us.

- Housing in Walgett or Lightning Ridge to support your relocation and settlement
- Access to a leaseback vehicle and essential tools of the trade.
- Salary Packaging options to maximise your take-home pay
- Generous benefits, including 5 weeks of annual leave and long service leave after 5 years.
- Flex-time arrangements, promoting a healthy work/life balance.
- The opportunity to lead high-profile projects and drive Council's new asset management planning framework
- A supportive workplace that values innovation, collaboration, and delivering real outcomes for the community
- Professional development opportunities to support your growth and success.
