About the Role
We are seeking a qualified Solicitor to join our growing team. The role involves direct client engagement, legal analysis, advocacy, and the management of matters across multiple practice areas, including property, commercial, litigation, wills and estates, and trusts. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling matters from initial client interviews to resolution, and will have the opportunity to work closely with senior practitioners and barristers on complex cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Advisory & Advocacy: Interviewing clients to determine the nature of their problems, identifying legal and factual issues, explaining rights and obligations, and recommending and undertaking appropriate legal action.
- Litigation & Court Work: Preparing cases for court by conducting investigations, undertaking legal research, arranging witness preparation and attendance, serving and filing court documents, giving notice of proceedings, and representing clients in court and tribunals.
- Property & Conveyancing: Managing conveyancing and other property matters by preparing and reviewing contracts of sale, mortgage documents, lease documents, and all documents relating to the transfer of land and buildings.
- Commercial & Business Law: Preparing and critically reviewing contracts between parties, including sale of business, shareholder and partnership agreements, and other commercial documentation.
- Wills, Estates & Trusts: Preparing wills and testamentary documents, trust deeds, and probate applications. Acting as executor of clients' wills, trustee, or guardian when required.
- General Legal Advice: Providing advice across company law, commercial law, partnerships, and trusts, and developing tailored strategies to protect client interests.
Key Tasks
On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for:
- Interviewing clients and recommending appropriate legal remedies.
- Preparing and managing cases for court, including investigations, evidence review, and witness arrangements.
- Representing clients in Federal, Supreme, District, and Local Courts, as well as NCAT.
- Drafting, reviewing, and finalising contracts of sale, leases, mortgages, and other property documents, and managing PEXA settlements.
- Preparing and negotiating commercial agreements, identifying legal risks, and recommending revisions.
- Drafting wills, managing probate and succession matters, and advising on asset protection and family wealth strategies.
- Acting as executor, trustee, or guardian for clients when required.
- Advising clients on company law, partnerships, commercial law, and trusts.
- Liaising with banks, accountants, barristers, and counterpart solicitors to ensure smooth progress of matters.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW (or eligibility to be admitted).
- Minimum 2 years PQE in property, commercial, litigation.
- Strong legal drafting, analytical, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to manage files independently while working collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to clients.
- High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Proficiency in Mandarin (speaking, reading, and writing) is highly desirable, as a significant portion of our client base is from Asian, particularly Chinese, backgrounds. Knowledge of Chinese regional dialects such as Cantonese or Hakka would be highly preferred.
- Proficiency in legal software and electronic conveyancing platforms (e.g., PEXA, LEAP, Microsoft Office Suite).
