SOUS CHEF / SENIOR CHEF POSITION AT OCEANFRONT KIOSK - NEST KIOSK - Kingston Park SA

We are on the hunt for a Sous / Senior chef to join our amazing team of experienced chefs at our busy oceanfront kiosk - Nest Kiosk - located in Kingston Park (just past Seacliff Beach, SA). We are open for all day breakfast and lunch 7 days a week (7am to 3pm) and over Summer will run 1-3 nights per week with beachside / casual dinner service, as well as sporadic evening private events. You will be a part of a small team of an energetic, creative, passionate and supportive chefs and staff at Nest Kiosk.

Job Type: Can commence as Casual, with a view to transition to Permanent, Full-Time (approx hours per week) if that is desired.

Salary:Competitive Salary and Bonus, in line with Restaurant Industry Award. Salary TBC - Dependent on applicant skills and experience. Guideline: Cook grade 4 (wage level 5) – in line with Restaurant Industry Award. Rate subject to increases on weekends and Public Holidays.

Hours: 25 hours minimum, up to 38 HOURS PER WEEK. These hours will/can increase if you are willing and able, during our busy peak Spring and Summer seasons, over busy holiday periods, and as we open for more dinner services with the warmer weather.

Job Overview

As Sous / Senior Chef you will assist the Head Chef to oversee the day-to-day running of the kitchen and be able to assist in managing, leading, motivating and developing the kitchen team.

You will also lead the kitchen evening operations and dinner service at Nest Kiosk once we open for dinner service (approx. 5pm to 9pm trade) as well as events/cocktail functions. 

You will have previous experience working as part of a very fast paced, quality driven and culinary team. You may have experience at Sous /Senior Chef level, ideally within a reputable establishment, or may have the passion and drive to step into this leadership role at this time of your career. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen, particularly during daytime service when the Head Chef is not present.
  • Support with dinner service, as well as events/cocktail functions.  Delegating daily tasks and overseeing food preparation.
  • Lead and collaborate with Directors and Head Chef in creating daily specials and menu ideas for dinner service and events/cocktail functions.
  • Lead timely kitchen production of the kitchen team, maintaining quality standards at all times.
  • Assist the Head Chef with training and development the kitchen team, maintaining quality standards at all times.
  • Assist the Head Chef in management and placing of stock orders.
  • Assist the Head Chef to implement and oversee the food safety management system and kitchen and food hygiene standards.
  • Engage in regular meetings with Directors and Head Chef to review quality, budget, service, staff (etc) standards and provide feedback with a focus on improvement.

The Successful Candidate will have:

  • Relevant experience from industry, and leadership and management skills. Previous Sous/ Sous Chef experience is not a mandatory requirement, however it will be regarded and taken into consideration.
  • Have previous experience for 1-2 years in a similar fast-paced, busy cafe/kiosk environment.
  • Outstanding knowledge of food, culinary skills, and expertise, and genuine passion for food.
  • Strong communication, organisation and forward planning skills.
  • Be passionate with regard to training, mentorship and development of staff.
  • Feel comfortable in a very fast-paced, busy environment, with a strong ability to remain calm and measured in the face of work pressure.
  • Embrace a strong commitment to quality and consistency.
  • Have an approachable, positive and proactive manner with a growth mindset.
  • Flexibility to work weekends (at least one day of the weekend will be required), evenings (approx. 4pm to 9pm), in addition to events, and public holidays as required.
  • Full current and clean driving license.

Position can start following successful trial shifts, and training shifts to follow. Position to commence in full capacity (with max. hours) in early to mid-October 2026.
