About BMD
BMD is Australia's leading integrated engineering, construction and urban development business. As the largest privately owned civil contractor in Australia, BMD is at the forefront of excellence, with a growing international footprint extending to the Philippines and the United Kingdom.
Driven by a purpose of powering futures and creating enduring legacies, we deliver complex infrastructure solutions that connect and transform communities. For over 45 years, our diverse portfolio of projects and roles provides exceptional opportunities for our people to grow and make a lasting impact. As part of our team, you'll help deliver challenging projects, supported by leadership within an inclusive people-first culture.
About The Role
BMD is proud to be delivering one of Tasmania's most significant infrastructure projects – the Spirit of Tasmania Devonport Terminal 3 for TT-Line. This landmark development will deliver world-class port facilities to support Tasmania's future growth, and we're seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer (Utilities) to join our team.
As SPE you will lead the delivery of critical utility packages to ensure the new port terminal is fully functional and operational. This includes:
- High Voltage (HV) power – incoming HV works, substations, coordination with TasPorts and subcontractors, and overseeing lock-out/tag-out safety and commissioning
- Fire services – fire reticulation, liaison with the Chief Fire Warden, and compliance with building permits
- Essential services – sewer, internal communications, CCTV, weighbridge, and systems that operate the ship ramp
- Stakeholder engagement – close coordination with TT-Line, building surveyors, TasPorts, authorities and multiple stakeholders to manage design, approvals and commissioning
This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring strong technical understanding, commissioning experience, and excellent stakeholder management to deliver critical utilities safely, on time and to specification.
About You
You are a driven and solutions-focused engineer with demonstrated experience in delivering utilities packages on large-scale civil or infrastructure projects.
You will bring:
- Degree qualifications in Engineering
- Proven experience in utilities delivery on major infrastructure projects (power, water, sewer, stormwater, comms)
- Strong knowledge of HV works, commissioning processes, and lock-out/tag-out safety
- Ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders and statutory authorities
- A collaborative approach to working within multi-disciplinary teams
- Commitment to safety, quality and innovation
Why BMD?
At BMD, we see the personal qualities of our people as our most valuable asset. Joining this project gives you the opportunity to be part of a nationally significant development while working with a contractor known for its inclusive culture and strong pipeline of projects.
