  • Salary ranges from $115,817 to $130,667 + super + leave loading

The Strategic Policy and Cabinet Branch is looking to appoint a Policy Officer in the Cabinet team.

As a Policy Officer, you will be part of a close knit, supportive and highly skilled team responsible for delivering the DCCEEW Cabinet program and strategic Cabinet and related advice to Ministers, the Secretary and senior executives. You will have the opportunity to gain exposure to senior decision-makers and play a role in shaping policy, strategy and legislation across DCCEEW portfolios (Climate Change, Energy, Environment, Heritage and Water) and broader Government priority areas. In this role, you will:

  • provide day-to-day coordination of policy initiatives, managing highly sensitive and confidential information with tight timeframes, while synthesizing complex information into clear, readable formats
  • support the development and implementation of strategic policy advice, ensuring alignment with DCCEEW's priorities
  • collaborate with and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of the DCCEEW Cabinet program and facilitate DCCEEW engagement with the whole of Government decision-making processes
  • contribute to engagement activities, processes and solutions that support the growth of Cabinet knowledge and abilities across DCCEEW.

About You

To be successful in this role you will enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-profile environment and will have:

  • Demonstrated experience analysing and evaluating evidence-based public policy, legislation
  • Good communication skills with the ability to tailor communications to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines, handling highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Adaptability and resilience to operate effectively in a complex, sensitive and changing environment, with the ability to quickly understand new tasks or subject matter and respond effectively to shifting workloads and time-critical priorities
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders across DCCEEW and beyond, and thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Understanding or experience of how government works, including Cabinet, legislative, policy and parliamentary processes

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in delivering and coordinating advice on policy, programs or projects.
