Senior Buying Officer

Perth, Western Australia Public Transport Authority Full time $104,000 - $130,878 per year

Are you a natural problem-solver with a knack for contracts and procurement?

The Finance and Contracts division provides services ranging from accounting, budgeting, costing, taxation, financial planning and resource management, management accounting analysis, auditing, foreign exchange analysis, financial modelling and reporting through to the provision of financial systems, procurement functions and vehicle fleet management.

About the role

We're on the lookout for a detail-oriented, people-smart Senior Buying Officer to join our team at the Public Transport Authority (PTA). If you love the challenge of keeping things running behind the scenes — reviewing business cases, developing contracts, and helping people navigate the ins and outs of government procurement — this could be the perfect fit. It's all about keeping things fair, compliant, and moving smoothly so WA's transport services stay on track.

Your day-to-day will involve preparing tender documents, supporting business cases, coordinating evaluations, and ensuring every contract meets the highest standards of fairness, security, and transparency. You'll work closely with senior management and external agencies, navigating a broad stakeholder network while using your knowledge of procurement systems and policy to drive performance and compliance. This is your chance to be a trusted advisor, a strategic thinker, and a behind-the-scenes hero who helps power one of WA's most essential public services.

Our ideal candidate has solid experience in contract development and administration, excellent communication skills, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities without missing a beat. If you're a natural collaborator who's ready to influence procurement outcomes and help shape better policy, we want to hear from you. Bring your expertise, initiative, and problem-solving mindset to a team that values continuous improvement, collaboration, and service excellence. Apply today to help deliver a smarter, more efficient transport future for WA.

About You

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Experience in contract development, including the preparation of reports and contractual documentation.
  • Experience in contract administration using finance, purchasing and contract management systems.
  • Knowledge of the application of procurement policies and procedures.
  • Sound interpersonal skills, with the ability to consult, negotiate, and manage relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Sound analytical and research skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise competing work commitments to meet targets and deadlines.
