Muru Mittigar is a Dharug-led, not-for-profit social enterprise that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through employment, training, and community development. We deliver a range of services across construction, environmental management, cultural education, financial wellbeing, and vocational training.

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Accountant (CA or CPA) to join our dedicated team on a part-time basis hours per week). This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional who values purpose-driven work and enjoys working within a collaborative, community-focused organisation. Flexibility to suit parent with school-aged children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, receivable, and payroll processing.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management reports and assist with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant financial records in line with accounting standards and NFP reporting obligations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet items, and general ledger transactions.
  • Support grant acquittals and funding body reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and relevant legislation.
  • Collaborate with external auditors, advisors, and leadership team to support sound financial governance.

Skills And Experience

  • CPA or CA qualification (essential).
  • Minimum 4 years' accounting experience, preferably within a not-for-profit or community organisation.
  • Proficient in Xero and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and analytical thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to cultural awareness and Muru Mittigar's purpose to create meaningful, sustainable opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
