
Fire Protection Equipment Technician

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection Equipment Technician to join our team on a full-time permanent basis (38 hours/week). The successful candidate will install, inspect, maintain, and repair fire protection systems, ensuring fire detection and suppression equipment operates reliably and in compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install fire protection equipment, including fire dampers, smoke dampers, fire and smoke seals, fire extinguishers, hose reels, hydrants, sprinkler systems, and detection systems in commercial and industrial settings.
- Inspect, test, and maintain fire protection systems in accordance with AS1851, NFPA standards, and manufacturer specifications.
- Perform repairs, adjustments, or replacements to maintain system functionality.
- Apply fire-resistant sealants and insulation around penetrations and dampers.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, inspections, maintenance, and compliance documentation.
- Work safely in confined spaces, ceilings, and duct systems.
- Collaborate with team members, clients, and authorities to ensure regulatory compliance.
Skills & Experience
- Hands-on experience installing, inspecting, and maintaining fire protection systems.
- Knowledge of fire dampers, seals, extinguishers, hydrants, hose reels, sprinkler, and detection systems.
- Understanding of Australian Standards (AS1851), NFPA 80 & 105, and local building codes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and installation instructions.
- Mechanical skills for installation, adjustment, and minor fabrication.
- Strong attention to safety, problem-solving, and time management.
- Good communication skills for reporting and liaising with clients.
Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Fire Protection, or equivalent.
- FPAS accreditation or willingness to obtain preferred.
- Relevant trade or technical experience in fire protection systems.
