EllieB's is seeking an experienced Senior Support Worker for our Kilburn Supported Independent Living (SIL) home. This role with work closely with our House Manager, Practice Leader and Compliance Officer in providing quality support to our residents, people living with disability.

About the Position

You will provide hands-on support to a participant with complex needs, ensuring effective and efficient service delivery. This position will also support the team through role modeling, coaching, and supervision. Working with care teams and families, the Senior Support Worker is responsible for providing high-quality, responsive, and person-centered support to assist participants to enhance their everyday living skills, gain access and participation in the community to achieve their goals, enhance their quality of life, and physical and mental health.

Role Overview

Work closely with the House Manager, Practice Leader, and Compliance Officer to manage and facilitate the day-to-day operations of our Kilburn Homes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide person-centered support to participants, assisting with daily living skills and community activities.
  • Understand and implement Positive Behaviour Support strategies.
  • Maintain a prioritised approach to seizure management and participant safety.
  • Positive reinforcement focusing on awareness of underlying causes, consistent routines, and appropriate responses to challenging behaviours.
  • Stay informed of participants' evolving care needs and support plans, ensuring alignment with best practices.
  • Generate reports as required.
  • Promote community inclusion, supporting participants to engage in relationships and activities based on their preferences and abilities.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment for both staff and participants.

  • Commitment to culturally safe and inclusive practices, ensuring participants receive care that acknowledges their background, beliefs, and preferences.

  • Trauma-Informed Approach – Ability to provide support that is sensitive to participants' lived experiences and promotes a respectful environment.
  • Engagement with Indigenous and Multicultural Communities – Understanding of cultural protocols, including working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and diverse communities.

Work Environment:

  • Must be flexible to work AM and PM shifts, based on a 24/7 rotating roster, including weekends and holidays.
  • Collaborate with participants' clinical teams, attend training sessions, and stay updated to ensure treatment plans are implemented at a high standard.

Leadership & Oversight:

  • Guide and support other support workers, fostering leadership through role modeling, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Adherence to best practice care standards.
  • Undertake participant goal planning, including Crisis Response Plans, effective risk assessments, and support plans.
  • Manage processes related to participant finances.
  • Advocate for participants' best interests, escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain positive relationships with families and decision-makers.

Quality & Compliance:Work closely with the Compliance Officer

  • Review, monitor, and evaluate support delivery to ensure alignment with relevant plans, including:

  • Behaviour Support Plans

  • Medication and Health Care Plans
  • Seizure Management, Bowel Care, Asthma, and Meal-Time Management
  • Monitor restrictive practices, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Work with Behaviour Support Practitioners and Allied Health Professionals to provide progress feedback.
  • Analyse incidents and risks, with a focus on practice quality improvement.

Participant Engagement & Workplace Culture:

  • Participate in regular house meetings and activity planning.
  • Contribute to a positive workplace culture, fostering continuous improvement.

About You

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in support of people with complex needs.
  • Extensive experience supporting individuals with disabilities in home and community settings.
  • Committed to fostering individualised, quality care aligned with best practices.
  • Ability to cultivate a supportive, professional service culture.
  • Maintain integrity, discretion, and ethical conduct in all interactions.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage competing demands in a dynamic setting.
  • Knowledge of National Disability Service Standards.
  • Strong understanding and application of positive behavior support principles.
  • Willingness to work on a 24/7 rotating roster, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications & Clearances

  • Min Cert IV in Disability, Mental Health, or Community Services or a related field.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Australia.

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • First Aid & CPR
  • Manual Handling
  • Medication Administration

  • Flu/COVID vaccination evidence
  • Unencumbered SA driving licence
