Senior Policy Data Analyst

About the role

We are seeking a specialist in data analysis and modelling to drive evidence-based policy and program decisions in early childhood education. In this role, you will provide high-level insights, calculations, and demand-supply modelling to support policy development, program evaluation, and executive decision-making. A strong understanding of the NSW early childhood education and care (ECEC) landscape is essential.

About you

  • You have knowledge of the early education and care (ECEC) sector, particularly in NSW.
  • You bring advanced modelling expertise, including demand-supply estimation, forecasting, optimisation, population projections, and financial modelling.
  • You have proven experience in conducting market or sector research and statistical analysis to support policy and funding recommendations.
  • You have advanced proficiency in statistical methods, forecasting techniques, applied economics, and costing analysis with demonstrated experience in modelling languages including R, Python, Stata or similar, for data analysis.
  • You have experience in working with relational databases e.g. Microsoft SQL server, Oracle, or similar and proficient with SQL programming languages.
  • You have a commitment to ethical uses of data, including an understanding of privacy, data governance and data sovereignty.
  • You have strong research and analytical skills, and strong oral and written communication skills.
  • You have analytical and problem-solving abilities, statistical leadership and coordination skills, and project management experience.
  • You are a result driven individual who thrives on producing outcomes for stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

  • Hold a valid clearance to work with children (Working with Children Check).
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
