About the Role
We're on the lookout for a detail-driven and proactive Accounts Lead to join our team in Cannonvale. This is a full-time, Monday to Friday role within our busy foodservice distribution business. In this role, you'll be responsible for overseeing the accounts function, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in accounts receivable and payable, debtor management, account setup and credit risk monitoring.
This role provides leadership and direction to the Accounts Officer, drives automation and process improvement and ensures compliance with company policies and external requirements.
The main things that you would be doing include:
- Leading and supporting the Accounts Officer, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and accountability.
- Overseeing accounts payable/receivable, including invoice entry, reconciliations, payment runs, debtor management, and cashflow projections.
- Reviewing and draft payment runs with cashflow projections before escalating to the General Manager for approval.
- Managing new customer and supplier account setups, credit checks, and account opening/closing processes.
- Taking ownership of debtor management – collections, payment plans, letters of demand, and escalations.
- Using CreditorWatch insights to strengthen credit control and manage risk exposure.
- Working with management to refine frameworks for account setup, credit terms, and debtor management.
- Collaborating with Purchasing and Management to negotiate improved supplier and creditor terms.
- Ensuring accurate data, reconciliations, and reporting on key metrics such as aged debtors, payment plans and adverse credit alerts.
- Supporting automation and process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.
About You
We're looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in accounts, bookkeeping, or a similar role.
- Demonstrated experience with chart of accounts and sound understanding of accounting practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
- Experience in debtor management, supplier follow-up, and account reconciliation.
- Strong communication skills and a professional phone manner.
- Ability to prioritise tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NEXUS, MYOB, Xero, or similar).
- Competency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools.
- Availability to work during school holidays.
The following skills and experience are desirable but not essential:
- Experience in a foodservice, FMCG, or warehouse/distribution environment.
- Familiarity with stock and inventory systems.
