Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic Legal Counsel to join our Real Estate Management Services (REMS) team in Australasia. This role will provide specialised legal support for construction and facilities management services across Australia and New Zealand. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting REMS operations while ensuring legal compliance and risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities
REMS Legal Support
- Reviewing, advising on, drafting and negotiating construction, consultancy and facility management contracts, including assisting with tender responses and vendor engagement
- Support vendor procurement for key real estate services including catering, cleaning, security, and maintenance contracts
- Handle legal aspects of portfolio transitions and new client onboarding
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Advising on and supervising licencing activities for the construction (PDS) business
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations across our construction business and managed portfolios
- Advise on environmental compliance, sustainability requirements, and ESG obligations
- Manage legal risks related to construction, facilities operations, and service delivery
- Develop compliance frameworks for REMS service delivery standards
- Handle regulatory inquiries and enforcement matters
Contract Management & Procurement
- Lead procurement processes for construction contracts and vendor agreements
- Negotiate complex multi-site service agreements with national and international clients
- Manage contract variations, renewals, and terminations
- Develop standard contract templates and legal precedents for REMS operations
- Oversee vendor compliance and performance management from legal perspective
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Support business development activities and proposal processes
- Provide legal support during client presentations and contract negotiations
- Manage legal aspects of client relationships and service disputes
- Collaborate with account management teams on contract performance issues
Litigation & Dispute Resolution
- Coordinate with external counsel on complex litigation matters
- Develop dispute resolution strategies and settlement negotiations
Required Qualifications
Education & Admission
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) from accredited institution
- Admitted to practice law in Australia
- Current practicing certificate in good standing
Experience
- 4-6 years post-admission legal experience
- Experience with large-scale service contracts and procurement processes
- In-house counsel experience in property services or related industry preferred
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of Australian and New Zealand construction law, professional services and commercial law
- Understanding of workplace health and safety regulations
- Experience with facilities management contracts and service agreements
- Knowledge of procurement law and vendor management
- Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction, property services, facilities management, or outsourcing industry
- Experience with ASX-listed or large corporate property portfolios
- Knowledge of sustainability and ESG compliance requirements
- Project management or operational experience
- Professional qualifications in construction, property or facilities management

- Collaboration: Strong team player with ability to work across multiple business lines
REMS-Specific Requirements
- Understanding of construction projects and service delivery models
- Experience with facilities management contracts including cleaning, security, maintenance
- Knowledge of workplace services including catering, reception, and concierge services
- Familiarity with property technology platforms and service management systems
- Based in Australia with a preference Brisbane or the Gold Coast. Will also consider Melbourne and Sydney
