Your Opportunity
As the Technical Architect, Server and Cloud you will be responsible for:
Lead the architectural design and strategic alignment of infrastructure platforms, align solutions with enterprise architecture and strategy and participate in governance processes and forums.
Provide architectural guidance across server, cloud, and virtualisation domains, champion infrastructure best practices, and collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to deliver scalable and secure infrastructure solutions.
Act as a technical mentor and escalation point for engineering and operational teams.
This position reports to the Manager, Server and Cloud. This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity.
The position will be based primarily at Mount Gravatt however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and architectural oversight across compute, storage, virtualisation, and cloud platforms.
Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and strategic goals.
Develop and maintain architecture artefacts, standards, and reusable design patterns.
Collaborate with other architects across ICT to ensure alignment between business requirements, technical implementation and other technical domains.
Work within the TAFE ICT Enterprise Architecture framework, participate in architecture governance forums and support the architecture community of practice.
Lead platform domain design reviews and provide mentorship to infrastructure engineering teams.
Contribute to ICT strategic planning and produce and maintain platform strategy and roadmaps.
Promote infrastructure automation, DevOps practices, and infrastructure-as-code initiatives.
Collaborate with vendors and service providers to assess emerging technologies, validate and review existing and proposed solutions, guide implementation and review processes.
Provide consultation for technical issues and problems in infrastructure operations.
Establish strong working relationships and communicate to a broad range of technical and non-technical clients, including key stakeholders and external consultants.
Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the values of Safety First, Working Together, Focusing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility and Showing Initiative.
How you will be assessed
The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:
Advanced technical expertise in hybrid infrastructure platforms, including cloud services (Azure/AWS), virtualisation, and on-premises systems.
Proven experience designing and implementing infrastructure solutions in complex enterprise environments.
Strong understanding of infrastructure automation, scripting, and DevOps practices.
Ability to produce and maintain technical standards, architecture documentation, and platform roadmaps.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to guide teams through technical challenges.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to mentor and influence technical teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the proven ability to engage effectively at all levels of an organisation, including the ability to work effectively alongside outsourced delivery partners.
A collaborative mindset and commitment to fostering a high-performance, inclusive team culture.
Demonstrated ability to promote a strong ICT team culture that values the contributions of all team members, is honest and considerate, and through that contributes to a high-performance team.
Highly Desirable Requirements
5+ years enterprise IT experience, with 2+ years in technical architecture or senior engineering roles.
Experience producing technical design documentation and standards.
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent.
The Open Group TOGAF 9 Certification.
Awareness of the Queensland Government Enterprise Architecture (QGEA)
Awareness of ITIL framework or similar process methodologies
Awareness of PRINCE2 or similar project management methodologies
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Bicep, Ansible).
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation platforms.
Knowledge of adjacent domains such as networking, IDAM, and security architecture.
