Position Overview

The Leading Hand is primarily responsible for supporting the Senior Leading Hand and the Operations Coordinator by overseeing the Production Team as they deliver day-to-day manufacturing processes in accordance with the Production Schedule. The role will entail a variety of operational and supervisory activities across numerous work cells within the Factory environment, and in alignment with Customer demand. Tasks will range from undertaking core operational and manufacturing processes through to supervisory and administrative responsibilities specific to the quality assurance of all manufactured goods.

The Leading Hand will be required to collaborate with the Senior Leading Hand to execute the daily Production Schedule and will be tasked to support and supervise the Production Team in delivering the Schedule in accordance with operational demand. Reporting to the Operations Coordinator, the role will combine a Team Leadership mindset and a hands-on approach to relevant manufacturing process, including contribution with relevant administrative and quality control functions.

This role will focus on facilitating efficient, effective, and consistent leadership of the Production Team, and in achieving quality, safety and environmental outcomes that are beneficial to both our Internal and External Stakeholders. The role will require a high focus on the quality assurance processes of (incoming and) outgoing goods, and in ensuring Employees are maintaining the safety measures applicable to their specific work cell tasks. The Leading Hand will assist in the supervision and support of the general workforce, and in conducting essential quality assurance inspections which minimise the opportunity for non-conforming products to leave the factory.

This role will be tasked in ensuring that DYWIDAG Operators comprehend and diligently fulfill all Production Orders in compliance with the specific technical specifications ( drawings ) and requirements demanded by our Customers. In addition, you will contribute in overseeing that DYWIDAG finished goods are safely packaged, labelled, and secured for transportation in a manner that meets the Heavy Vehicle National Law legislation for Chain of Responsibility, and for ensuring that all products and services we are expediting reflect the quality and performance reliability that DYWIDAG are globally renowned for.

RESPONSIBILITIES

PRODUCTION AND SUPERVISION
– Following Production Orders ( PDN ), associated Drawings and QA for each job
– Production of structural engineering components to the design specifications set by our Customers – within a timeframe that meets the demands of their construction schedule/s
– Raising of safety and quality control concerns that may impact operational performance
– Delivering efficient and effective work practices which maintain production capacity

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
– The requirement to confidently liaise with DYWIDAG's External Stakeholders – including Suppliers, Customers, and Freight Forwarders – by establishing rapport, and focussing on the building and maintaining of professional, long-term relationships
– Liaising with DYWIDAG's Internal Stakeholders – including Workers and Contractors – by establishing rapport and trust, and by maintaining professional and collaborative working relationships in the spirit of DYWIDAG's corporate image and culture
– To ensure communication and personal conduct remains professional, courteous, and with DYWIDAG's corporate image and reputation at the forefront of all engagements and interactions
– Leading by example – particularly in regards to achieving quality and safety outcomes
– Mentoring and developing the Production Team and ensuring cross skilling throughout each team to build more knowledgeable and diverse team capability

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
– Identifying and sharing Opportunities for Improvement within the DYWIDAG Production environment, focussed on reducing cost and increasing operational efficiency
– Removing waste, errors, and rework for DYWIDAG production processes.
– Working with Supply Chain and Quality / Compliance to flag preventative and corrective
actions which will drive continuous improvement through operational and QA processes

QUALITY ASSURANCE / CONTROL
– Monitoring and supervision of Quality Assurance processes – including the formality of administrative processes of PDNs, Drawings, QA, and Product Labelling, and undertaking relevant NCR Reporting when goods fail to meet DYWIDAG's high quality standards
– Escalating identified compliance, quality assurance or non-conformance issues to the
Operations Coordinator for formal reporting, corrective and preventative actioning, and identification of suitable resolutions

LEGISLATIVE AND ORGANISATIONAL COMPLIANCE
Employees are expected to comply with the following compliance requirements and obligations of our organisation and the industry with which we operate in. Guidelines include, but are not limited to:
– International Standards for Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Systems ( ISO )
– Relevant State and Federal Legislation, Regulation and Acts / Industry Code of Practice
– Company Policy and Procedure
– Chain of Responsibility – ensuring that Production Staff are correctly packing, loading, and completing CoR QA to safeguard DYWIDAG products during transit

QUALITY COMPLIANCE
– Ensure that production processes are undertaken and achieved within the specific parameters and service level agreements requested by DYWIDAG Customers
– Facilitate quality outcomes that meet the needs and expectations of our Stakeholders
– Raise a Non-Conformance Report in the event that a fault, failure, or error directly impacts upon the quality outcomes and satisfaction that is mutually desired by DYWIDAG and our Customers

– Reporting of any incident that requires First Aid intervention, and subsequently, the completion of associated Incident Reporting – including any consumables used
– Adopting a "Safety First" mindset and fostering a STOP FOR SAFETY approach for the health and wellbeing of yourself, your direct reports, and our DYWIDAG Stakeholders
– Active contribution and participation in all workplace WHS activities and training, including the performance of regular Toolbox meetings and safety engagements
– Consultation with DYWIDAG Leadership regarding WHS risks and opportunities, and recommendations for continual improvements

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE
– Ensure that DYWIDAG processes are appropriately planned and resourced to prevent and mitigate adverse environmental impacts from occurring during production or operational processes
– Raise and report a Non-Conformance in the event that an environmental impact or incident has occurred during production or operational processes.

We are looking for candidates with:
– Previous experience in a similar industry or manufacturing environment, and preferably as a Team Leader / Supervisor
– Experience in overseeing a dynamic Operations environment, and the ability to motivate and lead others to a collective outcome
– A self-motivated, proactive and safety conscious mindset. Able to encourage and lead a cohesive and team-spirited environment. Willingness to perform a variety of operational functions – manufacturing, mentoring, and supervising
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally across a diverse variety of internal and external Stakeholders
– Basic computer literacy

Preferred that you have:
– Previous experience in the manufacture of structural and geotechnical engineering components
– Basic competence with NAVISION or a similar Enterprise Resource Planning ( ERP ) Solution highly desirable
– Sound understanding of the importance of diligent manufacturing processes and finished goods inspections which facilitate the quality products demanded by Customers
– Excellent time management skills with the ability to navigate conflicting priorities. Ability to work effectively and efficiently without compromising the quality and safety outcomes demanded by Internal and External Stakeholders
– A motivational communication and team leadership style – able to easily build rapport and a positive culture within the Operations Team. Excellent "people" skills
