Position InformationGables Public School is a new primary school currently under construction at 1 Pennant Way, Gables. The school is located in the Northwest growth area of Sydney and is expected to experience rapid growth enrolment in the first 5 years of operation.
The school will officially open on Day 1, 2027 and will have capacity for up to 1000 students. The school will include 3 support classes and a preschool.
Due to the unique and complex nature of opening a new school, the foundation principal will commence in Term 1, 2026, prior to the completion of the school. The principal will participate in ongoing consultation and planning to support the school's successful opening in 2027.
Selection CriteriaApproval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,
1 Proven ability to lead and inspire a culture of high expectation and continuous improvement, aligned with the NSW Department of Education's Plan for Public Education.
2 Strong educational leadership to inspire and support the implementation of evidence-informed explicit teaching practices with a focus on continuous improvement to ensure growth and attainment of literacy and numeracy for all students.
3 Evidence of successful implementation and leadership of student wellbeing initiatives that support a diverse school community through inclusive practices, strong partnerships with parents and community, and effective consultation and communication.
General Selection CriteriaHigh level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P3 for 2026.
