The Role

We're seeking a seasoned Mainframe Systems Engineer to support a nationally significant legacy uplift program for a regulatory platform. This Sydney-based role is ideal for a senior engineer with deep expertise in IBM z/OS systems and ADABAS database administration.

You'll be working in a secure environment, ensuring the stability, performance, and compliance of mission-critical applications hosted on mainframe infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support IBM z/OS mainframe systems, including capacity planning, performance tuning, and system upgrades.
  • Administer ADABAS environments: installation, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform regular system health checks, batch job monitoring, and system maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain JCL scripts, batch job definitions, and utility jobs for data management.
  • Collaborate with Natural developers, system programmers, and application teams to optimise ADABAS usage.
  • Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures for ADABAS databases.
  • Monitor and tune database performance using ADABAS utilities and tools.
  • Participate in change management, audits, and compliance activities.
    Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and support guides.

What You'll Need

  • Experience in mainframe environments, preferably with IBM z/OS systems.
  • Hands-on experience with ADABAS database administration on z/OS or z/VSE.
  • Proficiency in JCL, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and system utilities.
  • Strong understanding of z/OS systems, LPAR configuration, HMC operations, and PARMLIB customisation.
  • Familiarity with Natural programming language is a plus.
  • Experience with job scheduling tools (e.g., CA-7, MQ, Control-M) and performance monitoring tools (e.g., OMEGAMON, RMF).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
    Australian Citizenship with an active Baseline security clearance.
